Will the U.S. men's team win the World Cup in the next 50 years?

  • Yes. Most likely...

The United States has an extremely large population. While it may not have the greatest number of points per person ratio in terms of Olympic medals, (or even the largest ratio of people who play soccer vs. those who do not) the large population supports the statement, especially given the fact that there are still 50 cups left, starting now. It only has to win one....

  • Yes the U.S. men's team win the World Cup in the next 50 years.

I think that the U.S. men's team could win the World cup in less than 50 years. Even though they have great competition in Brazil and Jamaica, I still think sooner or later we will win one. U.S. is known for having some of the best athletes in the world, but we have not conquer soccer yet, I think that motivation will make the soccer team more better and eager to win.

  • Probably

It's an incredibly low scoring game and they're always competitive, so one would think eventually they'll stumble into a victory. It will be the next "this is what will make soccer finally big in America" moment, and like all the other ones it won't end up being it because this country largely doesn't care about soccer.

  • Urban Dystopia Abandoned

Soccer is a suburban sport in the United States. With more and more evidence of the disastrous effects of CTE on the brain, we will start to see fewer of our best athletes playing football and more athletes finding alternate sports – soccer will be one of them.

The first step in that process is USA Soccer cannot close their academies and they cannot keep its club teams and academies in the suburbs. There must be an investment and outreach to urban areas in the United States. Much in the same way Brazil scours the Favelas, USA Soccer should find the next LeBron James in the vast diverse city centers

  • Yes, of course

To the people saying no because we don't have Messi's and Ronaldo's, let me remind you that we beat Ronaldo's Portugal in the last World Cup. There may not have been soccer academy systems in America in the past, but all but two current MLS teams have some form of a development academy and the others are working on it. There is incentive to develop talent from the youth through to the professional tiers of the sport in terms of recruitment cost and the ability to mold players within an established system. 50 years is enough time for these academies to perfect their craft. To those who say soccer will never be popular in America, I disagree. It is already big in certain regions, and the Latin-American population in the United States is and has been accounting for a larger percentage of the population year after year. If not within 50 years, within 75.

  • Usa usa usa

Yeah they will win...Lets remember teams like Brazil started off as minnows in the World Cup did you guys know in 1930 Brazil went out in the group stage? Yeah so USA will improve and I know Brazil likes soccer more than America but still lots of people in the US play soccer and wherever you go kids play it so there will be a winning team soon

  • I think so

I think they will. 50 years is a long time away. People keep saying it's because it's not the most popular sport in America. Who cares if it's popular! We have always bred good athletes, whether it's "foot"ball, baseball, basketball whatever. We win a lot of gold medals at every single Olympics. I honestly think American football shouldn't even be called football. It's embarrassing.

  • Yes they Will

  • Not the abbility to do it.

A country that only has 30 points with ten world cup appearences and is ranked under 30 in the world rankings. Can't win a world cup. The U.S is a B country in the world of sport they will never ever win something big. Sorry guys but you suck all of you.

  • I believe not.

Never. Never. Never. What makes you think that. No one likes soccer in the Us i can't believe that 66% of you actually think that you guys are stupid. Julian Green and Mix Diskurd aint no messi or ronaldo. I bet you that the entire backup Spain team can destroy the USA

  • No Way folks

Athletes can earn more money playing American football, Baseball or Basketball compared to the earnings of someone playing Soccer. Though there are few exceptions if you are playing in the Euro soccer leagues. American athletes are going to follow the money and it isn't in soccer! Also, very few Americans can even be considered good enough to play in the Euro leagues!

  • Sorry guys, not gonna happen

People have been saying Soccer in America is going to have a boom since we beat Columbia in 1994. It just never happened. I can see it gaining some footing now that American football is seemingly under attack. But even then, it's going to be minimal. Our best athletes don't play soccer. Basically, the US soccer fields are filled with kids who's parents were too scared to let them play football. Is that the people who you're going to compete and win with? No. Our LEAST competitive kids play soccer. American soccer is a suburban, soft, everybody gets a trophy sport. That's why we'll never compete on the world stage.

  • Just not good enough

The US men's soccer team is not good enough. They barely have any players that are in decent leagues such as BPL or Serie A. Almost all of the players are in the MLS which is terrible and no one really cares about. The team needs to start exporting these players to better leagues to even have a chance of beating the bests, such as Germany or Brazil.

  • USA suck at soccer/football

With Germany and Brazil and the rest off the world all they do is play the game and have so many leagues .Soccer /football would be better in the USA if there weren't so many other sports .Soccer /football will never be the number 1 sport in the usa .So for that reason the usa will never win a world cup like the ladies did .

  • Sorry, Charlie. It's not happening.

Ok. Let me get something straight. Nobody in the good old US of A likes soccer. We hate it so much, we gave it a mocking name, then we made another, much tougher sport also called football just to get the point across that this is America and we do what we wanna do here. Well except for one thing. Winning a FIFA World Cup. I know it says world in it but really it's only like 4 countries. And none of those countries are America. They're not even on our continent. We are so distant from the sport it's not even funny. And it's kind of a shame because no matter how good your basketball or baseball or US football team is, if your soccer team sucks ass, NOBODY CARES! Soccer is the one thing the world looks at, and I'll tell you were getting some pretty funny looks. The best we ever did was in 1933. We got 3rd place. Over the years, the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, NASCAR auto racing, even lax is bigger in the USA. We literally made up about three sports just so we could stay away from soccer. But, on the contrary, there are some very in-tuned soccer people in the US. But not that many. And that's the problem right there. Yes, we have the people. There are Peles and Messis in the US. I bet you. But there is no support for those players, because everyone is too busy gambling on arm wrestling or something like that. Another great American slogan: "Ain't nobody got time for that!". We don't got the time for soccer! We need to go to our fantasy football drafts, and watch some baseball because the NBA and NHL finals are over, which happened immediately after the Super Bowl, with the NCAA men's basketball tournament all in the midst of that! Did I forget something? Oh yeah, soccer. So no we will probably never ever ever ever win a World Cup because, well, this is America. And sometimes, we Americans just don't give a damn🇺🇸

  • Not a chance

Yes we have a good team, however it's not a great team. We dont have anywhere near the support or the money here as they do in Europe. Popularity of football (soccer) in the US is declining and a majority of us Americans are just not that into it.
Our skill level is just not up to par as it is in Europe and south America.
Consider this, nations in europe and south amErica kids start playing at a younger age as our kids play football, basketball and baseball. That's why we are good at our sport and that's why they are better and always will be better at soccer. Popularity for soccer in our younger generation will go up this year thanks to the world cup..... However over the following 3 years it will decline again as the excitement and hype dies down. Then it will raise again after the next world cup and so on..... Just as it does every 4 year's in our country.

  • Soccer aka association football is not one of the top 3 most popular sports in this country.

Let's be honest, Soccer is not one of the top 3 most popular sports in this country. Nascar racing, yes Nascar surpasses soccer in this country. Until soccer is one of the top 3 sports in this country, the talent just isn't going be there for a strong national team.

  • Never in anyone's lifetime for that matter.

We have Zero Talent. And we will never have the talent because the USA is a horrid place for breeding competitive soccer minded athletes. The only time we Americans actually like to see soccer is every four years when we think we're goanna win the cup. No matter the coach, no matter the players we don't invest enough money to build talent. It's like we have to import other people's talent to even be in the running. But no amount of imports will snag us the cup.
