The photo attached is a full-frontal facial view(2004, age 60 in Hobart). The photo has a light side and a dark side as is obvious to the viewer. This is an appropriate photo to symbolize my lower and higher natures. These are natures that reach for spiritual, ethical, moral heights and attainments on the one hand and that get caught up with the world of mire and clay, or shadowy and ephemeral attachments or the lower self on the other---as some psychologists call our more animal side. Putting one foot in front of another is what we all have to do all our lives. After 60 years I am still doing just that. I am in this photo 60 years of age. The photo was taken in 2004 in Hobart by a professional photographer at a photoshoot organized by Morfik, a computer firm at that time run by Baha"is. The last time a professional photographer took my picture I was in my teens and my mother wanted a good photo before I matured, left home and left her in 1962 for the wide-wide-world. This photo, like some others in this collection, is symbolic of a lifetime spent with files. The first files that I recall in my life were in about 1959 in my second year of high school, the year I joined the Bah"'" Faith. Fifty-five years later, in 2015, I now have some 300++ files in my study and 100s more in my computer directory. In the last decade I have revised and refined my collection of files to make them more useful to and more focussed on the topics which are my literary life.
The pen is symbolic of a life, my life, of writing--with memories of this activity going back 66 years: 1949-2015. Other symbols or icons could be used for my life, but this one icon will suffice, especially for the internet teaching and learning, service and social activism which I do and which I see, in some ways, as the culmination of my teaching and writing life. I wish all those who come across my writing at least some pleasure as they read. "It is incumbent upon the children to exert themselves to the utmost in acquiring the art of reading and writing, especially writing skills that will provide for practical and urgent needs. For most that will be enough......it is better and more fitting that they should spend their time in studying those branches of knowledge which are of use," so wrote Bah"'u'll"h. (See: The Arts, p. 2) I have spent my life turning the pages of books and files. This photo was taken at a photo shoot in Hobart Tasmania in 2004 organized and paid for by a web design company to assist them in the design and enhancement of my website. As it turned out the company moved from Tasmania to Sydney and changed its whole company and marketing focus. The photos taken at the photo-shoot were never used at my website nor was my website redesigned. But I still have many of the photos of which this is one, taken 10 years ago when i was 60 years of age.
