About Me:If you need a debate to be voted on, I'll do my best to post a fair and valid RFD. Just send me the debate or nominate me as a judge.
Beliefs:Knowledge of the external world is representational. Objects, as we know them, are created by our perceptual/cognitive apparatus and exist--as we know them--only in the mind. A priori cognition plays a significant role in our epistemic justifications. I think compatiblist notions of free will may be the most useful but I'm not completely convinced that it's the best way to conceptualize free will. I lean towards an anti-realist but non-nihilistic view of morality. Existence is ultimately meaningless but this does not prevent the creation of personal subjective meaning. The common-sense typical view of the self is very likely wrong but I'm not sure exactly what alternative is most sound. Empirical science is our most valuable epistemic tool but does not warrant by any means an exclusive monopoly on truth. The supernatural and God's existence are unlikely but not implausible. Strongly in support of LGBT and women's rights. Retribution should be entirely absent from the justice system.
Books:I like to read philosophy, science, politics, and almost anything interesting non-fiction. I also read fiction of a wide variety of genres.
Movies:12 Angry Men, Birdman, Blade Runner (director's cut), Boogie Nights, The Dark Knight, The Departed, Do the Right Thing, Fight Club, The Godfather, Gosford Park, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Her, Howl's Moving Castle, In Bruges, Inception, Inglourius Bastards, King Of Devil's Island, LA Confidential, The Last Emperor, The Lives Of Others, Lost In Translation, Memento, Monty Python And The Holy Grail, No Country For Old Men, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Pan's Labrynth, Princess Mononoke, Pulp Fiction, Resevoir Dogs, Spirited Away, Synecdoche New York, Taxi Driver, There Will Be Blood, Waking Life
Music:My tastes generally align with progressive rock, fusion, jazz, classical, progressive metal, and soundtrack----King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Van Der Graaf Generator, Yes, Frank Zappa, Sigur Ros, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, John Coltrane, Led Zeppelin, Major Parkinson, Gryphon, Weather Report, The Beatles, Focus, Bach, Debussy, Beethoven, Max Richter, Alexandre Desplat, Mozart, Chopin, Samuel Barber, Hans Zimmer, Caravan, Soft Machine, Moody Blues, The Cure, Gorillaz, Radiohead, Camel, Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree, Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, Air, MGMT, David Bowie, Jethro Tull, The Doors, Beach House, Kate Bush, Queen, Agalloch, The Album Leaf, Jim James, My Morning Jacket, Rachmaninov, Maurice Ravel, Talking Heads, Mostly Autumn, Velvet Underground, Shpongle, Explosions in the Sky, Elton John, Diego Garcia, Tchaikovsky, Richard Strauss, Curved Air, Eloy

Resolved: Just governments ought to ensure food security for their citizens

This is for the final round of Bsh1's Philosophy and Ethics Tournament. Congrats to Zaradi for making it to the final. I very much look forward to the debate. Food security: "The state of having reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food" [1] According to the United States Department of Agriculture, "food insecurity is limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socia...

what if the universe would disappear?

if the universe disappear would there still be an empty space where it once was?if yes then it would mean that that empty space is infinite, because if emptiness ends somewhere then its no longer empty,if the universe will disappear & there wont be empty space then what would there be? if its not empty then there is something there?so it looks like there are only two options,an infinite emptiness or an infinate somethingness? just a thought experimentA279;...

Kantian metaphysics and epistemology is superior to Objectivist epistemology and metaphysics

IntroductionThis debate is for round 2 of Bsh1's Philosophy and Ethics Tournament. Thanks to Bsh for moderating the tournament, and I look forward to having this debate with Bossy. The topic of this debate involves two very broad philosophies; however, they likely will not end up being too big to handle since we are comparing one to the other. That means we'll probably only focus on the core components of each side. ResolutionKantian metaphysics and epistemology is superior to Objectiv...

Theory of Everything

This is a theory vs. theory debate, in which each debater will propose their own Theory of Everything. There will not be a Pro vs. Con position in this debate. Each debater is to define and promote their own theory, and the voters will decide which theory more objectively and holistically describes everything in the Universe. Debaters can dispute and rebut opposing theories, but I prefer that the majority of the debate is focused on articulating and promoting your own theory. I'm not big on deba...
