Are there any actual Philosophers on this website?

Posted by: Blade-of-Truth

Upon failing to receive any inquiries on some brilliant essays I shared in the forums, it dawned on me that no-one on this site actually appreciates modern philosophy. Are there any actual philosophers on this site who are up-to-date with current philosophical publications or is everyone on DDO still trying to catch up?

  • Yes, they are around here somewhere...

  • No, most individuals dabbling with Philosophy on this site are undergraduate parrots at best.

  • I'd be interested to know who thinks they can confidently distinguish the "actual philosophers" from the "non-philosophers."

  • Yes, they are here...

  • Yes. I'm one philosopher on this website.

  • I am a philosopher as well. It's my main hobby. That's why I'm on the internet so much. I research in pursuit of knowledge and critical thinking.

  • So far there most individuals on this Site (Blade of Truth included) are unlearned in the field of Philosophic thought.

  • Not that i personally know of. But we do got some scientists like myself!

There's bound to be philosophers somewhere. They just hardly show.

What a pretentious poll.

@Kbub & Bubbatheclown, Please feel free to read these essays before making such assumptions: 1) Harry Frankfurt, "Freedom of the Will and the Concept of a Person." 2) Christine Korsgaard, "Personal Identity and the Unity of Agency." 3) Philip Cushman, "Why the Self is Empty: Toward a Historically Situated Psychology." 4) Kenneth Baynes, "Self, Narrative and Self-Constitution: Revisiting Taylor's 'Self-Interpreting Animals'." 5) Hubert Dreyfus, "'What a Monster then is man': Pascal and Kierkegaard on Being a Contradictory Self and What to do About it." If you can't tell, they build upon one another in chronological order from 1 to 5. I would LOVE to discuss them with someone who actually keeps up with the latest philosophy - but as I said before, it seems no-one on this site actually does. Forgive me for not wanting to partake in the usual debates and discussions that involve topics that have already been beaten to the bone. I'm just more interested in the latest publications, listening to undergrads and highschoolers debate or discuss topics that professional philosophers have already tackled serves me absolutely no purpose.

People keep voting 'Yes" and yet no one has actually taken me up on my challenge to discuss advanced modern philosophy under my new topic in the Philosophy forums lol. Ya'll some basic jokers who only care about the usual highschool topics like ethics/objectivity/and god as the first cause. *ZZzzzZZZzzz

True I'm not saying I am there has to be at least one philosophers here. When it comes down to philosophy I'm just stupid.

It's just unfortunate that they haven't shown themselves yet in a topic that requires true intelligence to comprehend. Kbub and Bubba are both jokers who have yet to proven they are qualified to make such baseless assumptions about me, and both show signs of cowardice considering neither have attempted to show they have the right to say such things - whereas I've shown my ability and have successfully culled the herd of the high-school philosophers from the true philosophers. Unfortunately, I've yet to see any true philosophers on this site. And don't say you are stupid! You've simply not dedicated the time necessary to understand it fully. I'm guilty of the same thing in terms of understanding women, cars, love or friendship. I'm stupid in all those areas, but I prefer to look at it as areas of life I've yet to dedicate enough time to.

BladeofTruth, I wouldn't even waste my time with Bubba. He was literally a click away from seeing that you have a Bachelors in Phily and Coms..

Actually I switched the sides. Just because people say there are just because people say they are doesn't mean they are. I know I'm not. I won't argue that I am.

@drax, yea I noticed that. If you'd ever like to chat Philosophy, feel free to PM me. I'm having an extremely pleasant and thought-provoking discussion with Demonlord now in the PM's.

Who's to say who is and is not a philosopher? Since we can all think and form opinions, aren't we all philosophers? Don't we all have our own personal philosophies?

Yes. I'm a philosopher who creates gorgeous quotes to express my thoughts and ideas. Here's one: "The hearts of men are selfish and evil and there is little they can do about it except remind each other constantly . . . . Still, there are people who I have crossed in life and who have surprised me - dreamers and Idealists. These are the people who I most admire, and who have motivated me to become a Philosopher!"
