I was close to both of my parents. After my father's death, my relationship with my mother was sometimes strained. She suffered from depression. All the signs were there, but ... She would not admit she was depressed, seek help, etc. For a decade, her depression strained relationships around her. My husband & I offered to go to "Family Therapy" sessions with her -- anything to improve the situation. Unfortunately, she felt everybody else had a problem. She didn't "need" therapy. It was a very long & stressful 10 years. Thankfully, it finally improved. But things were never as good as they once were, between us.
