Are you for or against shark culling?

Posted by: uglie-boy

Western Australia recently implemented a policy that allows the capture and killing of sharks that swim too close to beaches. Do you agree with this policy or is it inhumane?

  • For - I am pro shark culling

  • Against - I am against shark culling

  • Just because sharks are scary and have the ability to rip us to pieces does not mean we can treat them badly.

  • You want to get in the water, that's your choice. But don't kill something which lives in the water because your scared of it.

  • Just saying, who has killed more- humans or sharks?

  • Why would you kill sharks?

  • Well... culling turtles and whales has left Japan with a serious Jellyfish problem. Who knows what horrors all those sharks are containing via eating? I mean... it's Australia FGS.

  • sharks rarely attack or bite people the only time they do is is if the nervous curious or you might look like one of there prey on how you are swimming or moving in the water if a shark dose bite you either give it a little hit to the nose or grab its gills. the nose is the most sensitive spot on the shark. its a good way to get the shark away if you don't want to get near its mouth. the gill is like you're issuing a challenge the shark will back away from you and be peace full

  • Because Sharks are living beings even though they are animals, its the sharks home we are going in to there house, what happens you get an intruder at your house and you want them to leave what are you going to kill them, its just like that we are the intruders to the sharks its just how they are its like that with all animals what are you going to get rid off them as well while you at it lets get rid of our humanity at the rate why don't we just kill people

  • Sharks are amazing creatures, they play an very important role in the ocean. Some may say they are dangerous because they attack us. But we hurt them more, we polluted their environment and we kill them for their fins! They only hurt us when we go into their home and the accoutrement mistake us for seals

Themightyindividual: Shark attacks are actually very rare, in fact your more likely to be killed by domesticated cattle than by a shark.

Therefore, let's kill all the world's cattle!

The thing is "themightyindividual", sharks were on the earth way before us. And not only that, you have 30x more of a chance of getting killed by lightning than a shark. Yes, they are a lot in the southern hemisphere, but we should instead come up with safe ways of keeping sharks away from people than just killing them.

To Komododragon8: It doesn't matter, cattle are very useful, actually NECESSARY. Sharks are only necessary to the shark fin industry, which isn't complaining about this. Who else needs sharks near the beach? If you mean to cite the feelings of the sharks themselves, let me point out that you kill flies, spiders, ants, roaches, rats, mice, bacteria, mold, weeds, and countless other species that CANNOT rip you to shreds. So why not get rid of something that is even a minor threat?

Sharks rarlely rip people to shreds and they are important parts of the marine ecosystem. Without them that ecosystem will become chaotic and I woulnd count on there being sushi for a while. Plus there are countless other animals which kill far more people yet I dont see any culls on them.

@themightyindividual Cattle aren't necessary - people like eating beef and having cheese/milk/other dairy products. However, cattle farming has led to many issues both in America and elsewhere including deforestation (of the rainforest at that). Meanwhile humans do not naturally live in the water - we're aren't even all that good at swimming - and unless you're a fisherman , sailor, or dockhand you don't need to be near the water. So basically you're killing something that naturally lives in the water so that people can selfishly appropriate the waters... That tend to be filled with all kinds of things including lionfish, stonefish, stingrays, and teeny tiny horribly dangerous jellyfish. Will you be killing those off too?
