  • There's no economics in Communism

  • Communism is great in theory, but not in reality.

  • in capitalism individual output is dependent on their input which creates a more motivated workforce. Also capitalism embraces trade so countries can develop and industrialize past the impoverishing primary industry.

  • Communism contrasts with human nature. We NEED incentives to work, if we grow up in the knowledge that we die with the same wealth as any other man, why would you bother to work hard? Communism does not create wealth, it diminishes it and destroys personal freedom.

  • I am all for communism except that it deals with real human beings who are born with inherent respect and dignity.

If it would actually work the way it was intended , but it doesn't .

@Formerland1 according to what evidence does it not 'work the way it was intended'?
Formerland1 says2014-08-01T11:58:48.3840431-05:00
It's suposed to promote freedom and equality but usually ends up creating an authoritarian state.
Chimera says2014-08-01T12:42:44.1760318-05:00
Communism itself doesn't create authoritarian states. Processes to create a communist society (like vanguardism) have created authoritarian states. Communism itself works. Public libraries, Wikipedia, basic social relations, etc. are all examples of communism at work. All of which are used on a daily basis. Besides, even if we considered the authoritarian 'socialist' states of the 20th century to be communist, there is still far more examples throughout history of communist relations at work that were largely successful. Early tribes, early Christians, Protestant brotherhoods during The Reformation, Native American tribes, were all examples of communist theory at work.

Yeah but then living standards are low and technology would be lacking.
Chimera says2014-08-01T13:12:56.4004816-05:00
@leonitus2464 What exactly are you implying?
leonitus2464 says2014-08-01T13:18:29.9348956-05:00
You said native american tribes were an example of communist theory. Not a good example considering the level of technology they had compared to Europeans that and they didn't have the same standard of living either considering they lived in tepees and huts compared to European housing.( yes this only applies to north american natives not the incas, aztecs, myans etc)
Chimera says2014-08-01T13:31:48.9042601-05:00
@leonitus2464 I'm not saying that Native American tribes are direct examples of modern communism, i'm simply saying that some Native American tribes that used gift economies are examples of societies based on communist principles that weren't inherently authoritarian. However, there are many modern examples of communist theory as well, such as the Paris Commune, The Free Territory in 1919, and Revolutionary Catalonia. I also don't understand why you simply cherry-pick my argument and point at my use of Native Americans as an example, but not Protestant Brotherhoods.
leonitus2464 says2014-08-01T13:34:22.7839252-05:00
I don't know much about the brotherhoods so i used an example I knew more about. But while im not a communist i don't think its inherently authoritarian either.

It's doesnt have to be bad if its done properly , its just someone become power hungry.

Communism would work if practiced on a smaller scale with workers having the ability to drive change communally. The problem is that some see it as a way of consolidating power and controlling the masses and once they do this they subjugate the people, which is the opposite of what communism is supposed to be.
Shield says2014-08-21T11:14:37.6403675-05:00
Libraries arent communist. Libraries are funded by taxes, which are made from people buying things and making income. Lmao
Chimera says2014-08-21T15:55:02.2513863-05:00
@Shield How libraries work is communist, I wasn't saying that how they are funded is communist. When you're in a library, it provides it's abilities (through a librarian, library search engine, etc.) to satiate your need for the material that said library provides. In exchange for this, the library maintains reputation within the community, and proves it's use. I wasn't referring as to how they are funded.

Communism appears to have failed because it's not very strong in the face of unregulated and very aggressive capitalism.
debate_power says2014-08-26T15:55:41.7927023-05:00
Make no mistake, "corrupt" communists who behaved like Stalin weren't communist at all.
