Does it shock you when some people say they're not proud to be Americans.

  • No, I understand it because they get treated like second class citizens

  • Yes, I am shocked there is no reason why they shouldn't be proud

  • Not just like second class citizens. Whilst I'm not Americans, I am reasonably aware of what is happening in America, and I've to say....there is no reason to be proud. As it stands, it is a failing state. That said, I do not believe nationality - any nationality -, race, gender or sexual preference are things to be proud or ashamed of. They are not things you acquire of your own choosing(with certain exceptions applied, naturally) , therefor, I do not think one should be proud or ashamed of these things. One can be proud or ashamed of a government or people that they had supported or collaborated with, something they had a hand in changing/creating. And one can be glad or displeased with the fact that they are of a certain national, racial or gender group, but I find pride to be ridiculous. However, I think one can be proud or ashamed of humanity. Though it is not of our own choosing to be human, we still contribute in one way or another, know it or not.

  • Not only the way they are treated but also the way everyone else in the whole WORLD is treated by America.

  • Absolutely! If you aren't proud to be an American, you should leave. Why live in a country you ARE ashamed of? I may be unhappy with politicians, from time to time. But I am NEVER ashamed to be an American!
