Can you find a rational reason why gangs and mafias are good for society?

  • They force governments to refuse corporate influence.

  • In Mexico, large portions of the country are run by the Cartels. They are apparently a great source of jobs and fill in many rolls that the government is unable to do, like various social programs. Mexico also made more money through illegal drug sales than it did from its largest exporting industry, oil. The Cartels have also bailed out Mexico's banking industry a few times and generally keeps them afloat and an estimated 20% of Mexico's GDP is based of the drug cartels. In many ways, they act as the defacto government for a lot of the local communities.

Wow, disguised anti-capitalist propaganda?

**correction: Anti free market propaganda.

If you're talking about capitalism run amok..

Same thing

I'll credit you though, this was a clever attack against corporations.

"They force governments to refuse corporate influence." Why? How?
reece says2015-10-10T03:49:42.2638990Z
When Ilegalising a substance, the black market thrives and thus gangs, etc. It gives money and power to the criminal world. This forces governments to resist corporate influence which may have contributed to the ilegalisation. Pharmisuticals lose money from legalised drugs such as weed.
Vox_Veritas says2015-10-10T04:02:26.4134006Z
Are you freaking kidding me? If a black market for marijuana grows enormous, they'll place fewer restrictions on the mainstream marijuana market to divert funds away from the black market. If anything, the end result would be more power to corporations and less regulation. Or is that not what you were referring to?
Vox_Veritas says2015-10-10T04:07:36.2138147Z
You see, more regulation means X is more expensive and less easily accessible. This will provide people with an incentive to turn to the black market for X. A more free market is detrimental to the black market.
Vox_Veritas says2015-10-10T04:10:28.2661118Z
Black Markets generally only form whenever X is not available to the public (or whenever obtaining it legally is quite difficult due to a number of bureaucratic restrictions). Examples include price controls established in post-WW1 Germany and the early U.S.S.R. On farmers, keeping them from being able to make a profit by legal means and forcing them to sell their goods for higher prices on the black market.
Vox_Veritas says2015-10-10T04:12:12.6918424Z
A black market does, therefore, serve the purpose of allowing people to access certain desired goods whenever the government restricts access to it. This can be good or bad depending on the good and on the situation.

Vox, I'll debate you once I'm back on my laptop because I can't stand my iPod.

Long story short: pharmaceuticals make money from the variety of drugs they currently manufacture. Weed makes a lot of them obsolete.
reece says2015-10-10T04:32:36.2265998Z
For example.

Mafia is good for movie!
Vox_Veritas says2015-10-10T05:01:28.0160613Z
If so, sounds like weed would be the exception rather than the rule.
triangle.128k says2015-10-10T05:13:54.5528175Z
@reece Cannabis does have potential for lots of medical uses. However, it's not like Cannabis is a miracle drug that cures everything. You can't just be sick and think smoking marijuana will cure it, there's many things that it just can't do. It does not have the potential to drive pharmacies downhill by much.
triangle.128k says2015-10-10T05:15:20.5260708Z
Also, you know part of the Big Pharma conspiracy is against vaccines? So your picture as funny as it might be isn't legit to a good extent.
reece says2015-10-10T05:42:31.9742442Z
@triangle.128k weed was just an example. There are other illegal drugs like LSD, DMT, etc. These drugs combined would take a big chunk out of them. They have been shown to decrease depression, stress, pain and so on. Most are fairly easy to produce.
reece says2015-10-10T05:43:27.1213047Z
@Vox_Veritas What do you mean?
triangle.128k says2015-10-10T05:45:53.8676111Z
@reece A few psychedelics and marijuana won't collapse the pharmaceutical industry. Also, LSD can't just be grown like weed, it has to be made in labs. It's a synthetic drug.
triangle.128k says2015-10-10T05:46:43.5688925Z
Sure, it might replace some more dangerous drugs used by pharmacies, but pharmacies still aren't evil people looking to steal all your money. The Big Pharma conspiracy is nonsense, part of the conspiracy theory implies that GMOs and Vaccines are bullsh!T.
reece says2015-10-10T05:52:39.5123274Z
@triangle.128k I said MOST are fairly easy to produce. What other drugs and effects am i talking about? You seem kinda ignorant about the topic. You're appealing to extremes and appealing to consequences. You're being very emotional.
triangle.128k says2015-10-10T05:56:08.0727381Z
@reece I'm not being emotional in any sense, I was just telling you how extreme the "Big Pharma" conspiracy theory really is. Psychedelics and marijuana aren't going to impact pharmacies by much.
reece says2015-10-10T06:00:16.6323180Z
This is why i half@ss.
Vox_Veritas says2015-10-10T06:02:54.0861459Z
The drugs mentioned also have a huge potential for abuse. Plus, while in the black market there's no regulation of the industry whatsoever and these drugs will often be mixed with other, often deadly, substances. If what you're suggesting is that today's illicit drugs are somehow miracle drugs that we all need to be taking instead of behind-the-counter medication and prescription drugs, please be aware of how ridiculous and impractical this is. HeY DAD, I'VE GOTTA HEADACHE! I THINK I'LL TAKE SUM MARIWANNA
reece says2015-10-10T06:04:41.0262024Z
@Vox_Veritas More questions, less assumptions.
reece says2015-10-10T06:05:33.1624050Z
More extremes...
