Confederate States of America

The Confederate States of America, commonly referred to as the Confederacy, was an unrecognized secessionist state existing from 1861-65. It was originally formed by seven slave states in the Lower South region of the United States whose regional ec... onomy was mostly dependent upon agriculture, particularly cotton, and a plantation system of production which in turn largely relied upon slave labor. Each had declared their secession from the United States following the November 1860 election of Republican Abraham Lincoln on an anti-slavery expansion platform. The new nation was proclaimed in February 1861 before Lincoln took office in March, but was considered illegal by the U.S. After war began in April, four states of the Upper South also declared their secession and joined the Confederacy. The Confederacy later accepted Missouri and Kentucky as members, although neither officially declared secession nor were ever controlled by Confederate forces. The United States government rejected secession and considered the Confederacy illegal. The American Civil War began with the April 12, 1861 Confederate attack upon Fort Sumter, a fort in the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina   more

I wouldn't fight for either side I'm against war. But the Union was right i don't think anyone even the people on this site are going to pick the defenders of slavery.

"I wouldn't fight for either side I'm against war." So are you also against WW2?

" i don't think anyone even the people on this site are going to pick the defenders of slavery." One word, Heil.

The Confederates weren't mainly fighting for slavery, they were fighting for State's rights. It was actually predicted that they would abolish slavery by 1885 or somewhere around there.

I work at the National WW2 Museum in New Orleans Louisiana i have had the chance to talk to some vets and get an idea about the war. No one wants war. I am not for or against slavery i am not for or against WW2.

"I am not for or against slavery" So you have no problem with people being enslaved?
USMC61899 says2015-04-19T13:46:25.9659239-05:00
There as been slavery on this earth ever since man inherited it
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-19T13:47:45.8947739-05:00
Well there has been murder since man inherited earth. Are you also not against murder?
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-19T13:49:35.1397758-05:00
Wait, murder isn't the right word, murder is illegal homicide so without laws you can't have murder. So fix of previous statement. Well there has been homicide since man inherited earth. Are you also not against homicide?
USMC61899 says2015-04-19T13:51:14.8363328-05:00
There is a difference between murder and survival, i believe that man killed to survive and then it became murder in the later years.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-19T13:52:52.2250307-05:00
There were homicides that weren't for survival that existed since man inherited the earth. Are you not against these?
USMC61899 says2015-04-19T13:56:05.1299947-05:00
You are sounding like God
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-19T13:57:38.1272006-05:00
There were homicides that weren't for survival that existed since man inherited the earth. Are you not against these?

Mathgeekjoe what state do you live in?
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-19T14:00:57.6655215-05:00
Answer my question first, then I will answer yours.
USMC61899 says2015-04-19T14:02:36.0228910-05:00
Yes i am against homicide
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-19T14:04:32.8037424-05:00
So there seems to be a discrepancy in your logic. You are against homicide despite it existing since man inheriting the earth, yet your reason for not being against slavery is that it existed since man inherited the earth. Also if you want to know what state I live in, check the profile page.

@peterssmith everyone thinks that the whole war was about slavery, when it's not. The confederate state merely used on of their constitution rights(if the government is oppressive it is your duty to overthrow it) They felt that the government was oppressing them. Slavery was not the main economy for the south it was cotton and other raw materials, many were collected by slaves though. Slavery wasn't even on the long list of reasons that the south went to war. Lincoln made slavery the main topic for the civil war by making the emancipation proclamation.
PetersSmith says2015-04-19T14:11:29.1942966-05:00
ButterCatX: You do realize my point is agreeing with yours, right?
Stefy says2015-04-19T14:11:44.2038816-05:00
Petersmith: Much of it was states rights. But the main states rights issue that was being defended was slavery there is no ignoring that or getting around it. Half the reason they wanted states rights so bad at the time was to defend slavery because it was the foundation of their economy.

Mathgeekjoe: I wish everything could be solved diplomatically and i believe to an extent that it can be. However, unfortunately i am currently incapable of finding a perfect solution for all historical problems. I just know i would never participate in a war or kill anyone.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-19T14:19:48.6582715-05:00
"I wish everything could be solved diplomatically and i believe to an extent that it can be." Diplomacy only works when two sides are willing to compromise. If one side is willing to compromise while the other isn't, then diplomacy will not work. In fact, trying to find the diplomatic solution can often lead to war. One could blame part of WW2 on attempts by Chamberlain to get world peace.

Guys the main reason was slavery, lets be real. The south just used 'state rights' as their excuse to not look like the genuine bad guys in the conflict. Lincoln didn't even campaign on a platform of abolishing slavery, and after the civil war was lost, the South IMMEDIATELY put laws into place like black codes, jim crow laws, poll taxes, etc. that were specifically designed to bring the states back as close to society under slavery as legally possible. They would not have done any of that had the states actually seceded from the union over states rights.
PetersSmith says2015-04-19T14:34:16.2589592-05:00
Imabench: Does that mean you're a time-traveler?
imabench says2015-04-19T14:35:01.7225252-05:00
No it means I actually use my head
imabench says2015-04-19T14:36:38.3302030-05:00
Wait are you responding to my answer in the poll itself or to my poll comment?
PetersSmith says2015-04-19T16:23:40.3414322-05:00
Imabench: Answer in the poll.
imabench says2015-04-19T16:50:19.8191556-05:00
Oh gotcha. Yes I would be a time traveler. Though I would lie my a** off just to freak people out about what the future is like
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-19T17:28:08.1650383-05:00
You do know that time travel would destroy the universe?
