  • If someone points a weapon at you that is designed to kill people, I would have defended myself. It's unfortunate, yes. I'd say the only thing the cops could have done differently would have been to enter quietly, however the cops did say they announced their presence as they entered. But the question Is did they respond correctly. And the answer is yes. When someone aims a gun at you, it is reasonable to aim one back. Of course they could have ran away, but you can't really run away from a bullet.

"Here's an idea: RETREAT!" You are far more likely to be shot retreating than facing a threat.
Mister_Man says2015-04-20T15:53:18.3826456-05:00
Kind of surprised the headline doesn't read - "White police officer brutally executes helpless elderly African-American man in yet another vicious act of racism."
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:02:33.3406030-05:00
@mathgeekjoe they shouldn't have broken in the house in the first place. The 75 year old was actually in the right! And they could've left BEFORE he shot. @mister_man The police are trained to "shoot first, ask questions later" regardless of race.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:03:25.4917373-05:00
Retrogamer176, you did read the article right?
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:04:01.9950677-05:00
Quote--Gastonia police then contacted the Gastonia Fire Department and Gaston Emergency Medical Services at 11:30 p.M. And a “decision was made to enter the house, concerned that he may be inside in need of emergency assistance,” Helton said.--end quote.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:06:06.6251702-05:00
"And they could've left BEFORE he shot." My point still stands. You are still far more likely to be shot retreating than facing a threat.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:06:27.1237016-05:00
@mathgeek quick question: Why did they knock on the door after 10:00? They should've waited until morning.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:07:45.4362036-05:00
You do know a few hours can make a difference in a medical emergency?
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:10:10.2051316-05:00
@mathgeek "You are far more likely to be shot retreating than facing a threat." So what? You're supposed to be HELPING the guy! The guy was pointing the gun BECAUSE they were breaking in. Walk in, see the guy has a gun, and instantly walk out and bring out a megaphone telling him they are here to help. Don't SHOOT him! Oh, but shoot first, assess the situation later right?
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:12:01.2778436-05:00
Retrogamer176, I really don't think you read the article.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:12:13.6955232-05:00
"You do know a few hours can make a difference in a medical emergency?" You do know shooting someone makes the situation worse right?
Mister_Man says2015-04-20T16:12:15.9887379-05:00
Retrogamer, I know I was being sarcastic lol. I'm just making fun of how the biased liberal media usually acts.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:13:25.1027259-05:00
@mister_man Not all liberal media is like that. I watch secular talk and the young turks for my news.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:14:22.1779468-05:00
"You do know shooting someone makes the situation worse right?" Let me guess, you have some type of crazy thought that they wanted to shoot him.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:14:53.1574866-05:00
@mister_man and most conservative news are just as bad. *ahem* fox *ahem*
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:15:38.6964373-05:00
@mathgeek no, it's the training. Shoot first, ask questions later.
Mister_Man says2015-04-20T16:15:47.0892911-05:00
TYT make me want to shoot up a school. Seriously though I can't stand them, I'm not the best guy to discuss politics and parties and all that with but they seem like liberal extremists as well. Regarding this case, what would you do if you were entering someone's house after announcing who you were and making your presence known and they drew a gun on you?
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:16:30.1767673-05:00
"Shoot first, ask questions later." If you are saying that, it proves you didn't read the article.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:16:34.6851962-05:00
@mister_man retreat.
Mister_Man says2015-04-20T16:16:58.4503944-05:00
And no, the training isn't "shoot first, ask questions later." That's ridiculous. They're trained to shoot only if they feel their lives or another person's life is in danger.
Mister_Man says2015-04-20T16:17:37.3374630-05:00
You put yourself more at risk of being fatally shot if you turn your back and run away.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:17:51.7340901-05:00
@mister_man so why did a cop get in trouble for NOT tazing a calm child?
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:18:22.2938811-05:00
"Shoot first, ask questions later." If you are saying that, it proves you didn't read the article.
Mister_Man says2015-04-20T16:20:01.1213195-05:00
No idea what you're referring to.

http://www.rawstory.com/2014/12/calif-cop-may-be-fired-for-giving-suicidal-student-water-instead-of-tasing-him/
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:28:00.3875917-05:00
Again, you seem to fail to read the articles you are giving us.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:28:36.2366215-05:00
"calm child" Wasn't a calm child, it was a suicidal college student with a knife and hammer.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:28:55.7211464-05:00
@I'm well aware that the article says "taze", but the point stands.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:29:59.8245119-05:00
And the man managed to calm the child down, before going to get a glass of water, and THAT'S when the tazing happened. What did I get wrong?
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:30:47.1910231-05:00
Misleading use of the word child.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:31:37.9125989-05:00
Student, whatever.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:36:03.2730871-05:00
You are trying to misleading show the situation as a " tazing a calm child" this gives the impression of a much younger age than what the college student really was.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:36:54.9718185-05:00
@mathgeek again, student, whatever. A minor detail that slipped my mind.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:37:02.1634646-05:00
Also we don't know the whole story yet. "The university said in a statement that the case was “more complex” than Solomon’s union had described it."
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:39:10.1466850-05:00
@mathgeek Let's just agree to disagree before this escalates more than it already has. I don't think either of us is going to budge.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:39:16.0435228-05:00
"A minor detail that slipped my mind." I doubt it "slipped your mind". You clearly want to show the situation as more dramatic than what it was. You still prefer to use the term student instead of college student. The word student causes more emotion since people also think of K-12 instead of person going to college.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:40:02.8438228-05:00
@mathgeek WHATEVER!
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:42:24.3991302-05:00
"@mathgeek Let's just agree to disagree before this escalates more than it already has. I don't think either of us is going to budge." Well you seem to lack any good reasoning or logic on the subject. Evident by the word "WHATEVER!" being used so often.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:45:43.0207023-05:00
If anyone here has even the chance of budging, it is you. Of course I wouldn't be surprised if you could defend you belief with nothing but stubbornness.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:49:19.2369894-05:00
I have often have had to defend my beliefs with nothing but stubbornness until I can find proof.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T16:50:42.9381946-05:00
Well at least you're honest.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:56:36.7417939-05:00
Retrogamer176, When you are still a teenager, you have a hard time proving an argument against a more educated foe. Once you grow up, you can find evidence and actually prove an argument.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T16:57:38.5181899-05:00
Currently you are at a severe disadvantage because of your age level and maturity, to try to sway your belief during a time of limited knowledge would be unfair and wrong.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-20T17:01:07.7311310-05:00
@mathgeek you do that
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T17:10:01.7225540-05:00
"you do that" Do what? I merely am respecting your inability to make any good arguments do to your age and lack of maturity.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-20T17:11:40.6271880-05:00
If you were even capable of providing a reasonable argument, I assure you I would not be so lightly of your mistakes.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-22T16:37:32.4116960-05:00
@mister_man They're trained to shoot only if they feel their lives or another person's life is in danger... http://gawker.com/police-officer-shoots-and-kills-naked-unarmed-black-ma-1690533895 So he couldn't find a way to incapacitate him? Watch, mathgeek claims I never read the article about a man "acting deranged, knocking on doors and crawling around naked."
