The land of the free is also very good and exercising the law so that others may be free from crime.
triangle.128k says2015-08-01T20:42:54.6173421Z
@Varrack Maybe. My point isn't to insult US, it's to show how corrupt our justice system is.
tajshar2k says2015-08-01T21:05:56.8954028Z
The land of the free, unfortunately isn't even ranked in the top 10 for freest countries.
triangle.128k says2015-08-01T21:21:26.7731034Z
Freedom is subjective, it's not as clear as you think.
triangle.128k says2015-08-01T21:22:11.8913958Z
US might not be the freest country, but it's better than many other countries.
stargate says2015-08-01T21:37:29.4683346Z
Well just don't do drugs.
triangle.128k says2015-08-01T21:39:54.7572411Z
Yeah, that's how you defend our corrupt imprisonment system? "Just don't do drugs."
triangle.128k says2015-08-01T21:41:33.7035002Z
Do you realize how crazy the DEA's drug scheduling is? People get arrested for using psychedelics, which are actually less harmful than alcohol. Yet, everyone can drink wine just fine.
triangle.128k says2015-08-01T21:43:00.5960572Z
The war on drugs isn't the only factor to this either. We need imprisonment reform, it's a sad thing that countries like Cuba have lower imprisonment rates than us. Also, some people are just addicted. Not all drug addicts are idiots who thought using drugs is cool.
triangle.128k says2015-08-01T21:49:22.5957059Z
Even if you take out the drug-related prisnors, there would still be a pretty high imprisonment rate in the US.
SnaxAttack says2015-08-01T22:01:58.1037669Z
@triangle.128k Don't you think we should make money off of the people who do these drugs? The ones who are irresponsible for their actions?
triangle.128k says2015-08-01T22:05:42.3911866Z
Like I said, not all drug addicts are fools that thought it would be cool. Many drug addicts have a reason behind their addiction, some even became addicted due to overprescription of painkillers.
triangle.128k says2015-08-01T22:06:57.9892999Z
They could contribute to society and the economy if we could help them out of their addiction and employ them.
SnaxAttack says2015-08-01T22:08:56.8308330Z
But why go through all the trouble of trying to bail them out of their addiction, which could easily result in a failure compared to using their own irresponsibility as a "money producer"?
triangle.128k says2015-08-01T22:10:40.0925299Z
That's what drug dealers do already.
SnaxAttack says2015-08-01T22:12:19.8661345Z
Yes but if we legalize drugs, then we will lower the population rate inside prisons; and make a profit off people buying the drugs. What is wrong with that?
triangle.128k says2015-08-01T22:20:28.4569152Z
Legalizing all drugs could be risky. We could put the potential for usage rates to become a lot higher.
triangle.128k says2015-08-01T22:20:54.0112806Z
I'd support legalizing only milder ones, and decriminalizing the rest.
SnaxAttack says2015-08-01T22:21:40.6403810Z
I agree that not all should be legalized, but the low mild ones should be legalized.

triangle.128k says2015-08-01T22:27:05.4250752Z
There's still other factors to be solved though, cutting our imprisonment rate in half would still put us pretty high for imprisonment.
stargate says2015-08-02T00:10:58.8025513Z
Yeah we have ti many prisoner.
stargate says2015-08-02T00:11:23.8407118Z
Also I am not defending it.
TBR says2015-08-02T00:23:42.8330489Z
@Varrack - .... Drug crime....
briantheliberal says2015-08-02T03:13:44.8148458Z
Wylted, "Yeah but there mostly black so it's okay" - How does that make it okay?
Haroush says2015-08-02T09:55:14.1488771Z
Who cares if it is true?
Haroush says2015-08-02T09:57:14.8312507Z
@btl, Wylted's comment was a trolling comment...
Haroush says2015-08-02T09:58:21.8804805Z
I agree with you Varrack.
triangle.128k says2015-08-02T13:37:59.6593529Z
@Wylted I thought racism month ended on August 1st?
Vox_Veritas says2015-08-02T21:34:57.0664410Z
It really is that simple: don't do drugs.
Varrack says2015-08-02T21:38:35.2338395Z
@triangle - us having many prisoners doesn't necessarily imply that our justice system is corrupt. The US is the third most populous nation and prisoner extradition is common. Do drug offenders really make up a large portion of the prison population?
triangle.128k says2015-08-02T21:40:47.0621107Z
They make up 52% of them. The US's population only makes up 5% of the world. India and China have less prisnors than us despite their population of over a billion.
TBR says2015-08-02T21:48:42.6543732Z
"It really is that simple: don't do drugs." - OK, but does doing drugs necessitate the insane costs incurred policing and imprisoning? Can't think of a better way to deal with it?
TBR says2015-08-02T21:50:07.8025222Z
How anyone can rationalize this issue is beyond me.
