Discriminating against homosexuals is no better than racism

Posted by: Zylorarchy

I recently did a poll titled "Discriminating against someone due to their religion is no better than racism". Someone commented claiming that "It's funny how a lot of the people voting 'yes' are the same ones who would disagree if you replaced "religion" with "homosexuality". I must admit its an interesting comment, time to test that out.

  • I agree

  • I diagree

77% 20 votes
23% 6 votes
  • Homosexuality is no more a choice than ethnicity. I also voted on my previous poll stating that I too believe discrimination against religion is no better than racism. I hope that those who agreed with me will also vote the same in this, if they truly believe in equality.

  • All things for that matter

  • I'm against homosexuality but still.

  • Discrimination based on race is flat-out evil; it's indefensible in today. There's really no excuse for it since schools, churches and other institutions consistently tell us it's wrong. Science also demonstrates that there's no good reason for it, since there are so many examples of people from various races that do well and behave well, and others that choose not. Discrimination against homosexuals is a little more understandable--but it's definitely not right or excusable!

  • Gay is ok. By being gay your not hurting anyone. It would be great if people would mind their own business and not worry about someone else's sex life-the most private thing about a person.

Thank you for making this poll. I cannot wait to see the results.

Briantheliberal: You're welcome, and me too.

You can't discriminate against one group and think someone shouldn't discriminate against your group if this is what you are implying...

So you can't answer a strait forward question without looking like a bigot or claiming you're not a bigot with terrible logic.

Haroush, that isn't what he was implying. He made this poll to test the results from a previous poll about ethnic vs. Religious discrimination. A lot of religious people who voted on the other poll said that it's their right to be protected under the law from discrimination because of the religion, but those same people feel as if homosexuals should still be treated as second class citizens with no protection under the law. It's to point out their hypocrisy.

Briantheliberal: More of a test rather than trying to actively prove hypocrisy. And Haroush: Why not? There is no credible reason to discriminate against both these groups.

Is he implying that if you aren't discriminating against homosexuals, then your discriminating against heterosexuals? Couldn't understand his post.

ChosenWolff, that also is not the point of this poll.

Your argument is somehow disconnected, homosexuality is not a choice, Religion (mostly) is, homosexuality doe not convert people to homosexuality, the don't care as a whole if your gay or straight, religion is actively against equality. The two dont equate to same things, this would be an epic debate though. . .

Thank you Brain for the answer and Zylo it was just a question that is all I presented. Though my next question is what do you consider discrimination? I need to know the specifics because everyone now days has their own interpretation of everything. This way I can have a clear understanding of what you consider discrimination. Don't get me wrong, but I have answered questions on polls before, someone would bring it up and say,"but you answered x on this poll..??" I would reply,"Yes, I voted for x on that poll, but what you are talking about here is y." See, what I am saying? I just want to make sure you and I have a clear understanding of each other.

Haroush: Treating someone with a protected characteristic less favourably than others (government definition). Protected being what the law deems as unacceptable to discriminate against, such as age, race, disability, sexuality etc. This is direct discrimination, there are other forms. But it essentially comes down to treating someone less favourably because you don't like something about them.

Bettabreeder: Wow did you really just say that? Nice way to make yourself look unbelievably stupid.

He's the last remnant of the ultra southern neo-confederate population this site used to attract. Most of them left a month and a half a go.

Can you really expect less though. His profile picture is the coat of arms for the KKK for gosh sake.
