Do we truly get persuaded by reason or do we willing choose to become persuaded?

The reason i ask this is that many people tend to stay with their reason even if they are proven wrong. Or if not proven wrong, they simply believe to believe. And it just makes me wonder if reason actually works or if its just a choice to accept evidence and reason

I believe it's a combination of both. People have standards for when to consider themselves persuaded. "Enough evidence" for one person might not convince another person. In some cases where a person isn't really proven wrong (or even when they have been) they may just be conceding while thinking to themselves "No it's still wrong."

I agree with mastur. It is a combo of both.
