  • The coming of Jesus the messiah was predicted in the old testament, because God loves us, Jesus had to die as the sacrificial lamb and be raised on the 3rd day. Jesus lived on earth for 40 days after his resurrection and then ascended to heaven in front of his disciples where he sits on the right hand of God.

  • I believe it, yes.

  • Praise Jesus

  • It was recorded in the bible in all four gospels. It was also recorded by many historians of the time. There is a ton of evidence supporting this. Also, Jesus is God, of course he resurrected. Truly I believe.

  • Duh....

  • several roman gaurds of his tomb claim that they saw him rise from the dead. These were pagan romans who had never heard of Jesus mind you. they all converted to christianity soon after

  • heads up the only way to get to heaven is to belive that jesus died on the cross for us to take away our sins

  • I make it a point to not believe in things with no evidence.

  • Easter is a pagan holiday. Christians for some reason believe Jesus actually rose from the dead, which is not surprising...

  • Evidence? If not, we can't reject the null hypothesis (Christ wasn't resurrected)

  • I agree with Nac

  • I'm skeptical about Biblical stories.

  • Old testament for the win.

  • Yeah, sorry, no. No real evidence other than a 2000-year-old source that can't be trusted (stuff was recorded much later after it actually occurred, subjective bias, etc) and on top of that it doesn't really make any biological sense. If there was some other scientifically backed account of something like the resurrection happening, maybe I'd be a bit less skeptical, but even if that was the case, that would be no evidence of divine anything.

  • No. I believe in the resuscitation of Christ, not resurrection. Why accept a fairy tale story when even in that, it describes Jesus as drinking a liquid from a sponge which almost instantly makes him appear dead at the most opportune moment which prevents him from having his legs broken, and results in him being taken down right away. Then was wrapped in a crap ton of myrrh (stops bleeding) and aloes. How would you explain that? he baking a cake in that tomb? Also Jesus was on the cross between 3 to 6 hours. (It takes on average 3 days to die from it) and even then some still survive

  • I go by facts, if I told you that I was resurrected after 3 days than would you believe me? No. This might seem ignorant but it's inly because you are.

Why do Christians actually believe the story of Jesus Christ? He is nothing more than plagiarized, overrated version of various Pagan gods throughout history.

I suppose that the results of this poll should not be a surprise, considering that this is basically atheism.Com under another name.

This site is far from atheistic. There are many religious people here.
Texas14 says2015-04-05T19:00:13.2410943-05:00
@briantheliberal, you say that like it's modern Christians who have misread history. In the earliest centuries AD, there were many Christians brutally murdered by Pagans for believing in the resurrection. Who in their right mind would give their life for a lie? No one! The gospel happened and it was widely believed and accepted because people who lived it spread the word.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-05T19:03:25.8426384-05:00
Prepare for briantheliberal to give another comment that is a form of condescension.

Texas14: "Who in their right mind would give their life for a lie? No one! The gospel happened and it was widely believed and accepted because people who lived it spread the word." Are other gods besides the Christian god false?
briantheliberal says2015-04-05T19:09:02.5189537-05:00
Texas14, clearly you haven't heard of Horus, Vishnu, Dionysus etc... There were thousands of Pagan religions in the world before Christianity came along. Many were against Christianity when it became popularized BECAUSE Christians were plagiarizing their stories, religious figures etc... The Bible is a compilation of various Pagan stories, and is in no way original. The "gospel" as you call it, is a lie.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-05T19:09:18.2746507-05:00
Well technically the Judaism god and the Islamic god are the same god as the Christian god.

Texas14: Are gods besides the God of Abraham false?
briantheliberal says2015-04-05T19:12:42.1835101-05:00
All gods are false until they are proven to exist. So far the evidence shows otherwise.
Texas14 says2015-04-05T19:14:11.1902176-05:00
The difference with those other Gods is that they don't have historical evidence to back up the gospels. Really, historical or any evidence shouldn't have to back up religous arguments, but that's all non believers will accept sadly. Also, you're claiming without any evidence from other religions that Christianity stole their ideas and that's why Christians were persecuted. If that were true, the systemic murder in the Roman Empire would seem like less of a crime right? But it was a major crime caused by bigots who hated that this new religion was different and that it offered something besides faith and worship.

SamStevens says2015-04-05T19:16:11.7758986-05:00
If every other god besides the God of Abraham are false, a lot of people did sacrifice/give their life for lies, Texas14. Look at the Aztec Empire and how they not only sacrificed themselves, but also the lives of other people and animals. There are plenty of examples that refute to your point "Who in their right mind would give their life for a lie? No one!".
briantheliberal says2015-04-05T19:16:26.3460184-05:00
"The difference with those other Gods is that they don't have historical evidence to back up the gospels." - And yours does??? You do realize everything you are saying is no different than what a Hindu or Muslim would say about YOUR god. In reality, YOUR god is no different than any of the thousands of gods created by human beings. The only difference is that your god is more popular.
briantheliberal says2015-04-05T19:18:03.2201554-05:00
Retrogamer, he doesn't have any evidence, he is just mouthing off to show how "faithful" he is. If he has evidence I'd definitely love to see it.
retrogamer176 says2015-04-05T19:20:10.0756050-05:00

Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-05T19:21:34.9451825-05:00

Texas14 says2015-04-05T19:23:33.8790329-05:00
"And yours does???" of course mine does! And it is ignorant of history to say otherwise. There was a tomb that was opened and there was no body found. Next, several of his disciples claimed to have seen the resurrected Christ. Many say that that was a lie or hallucination from grief. But grief is very temporary. So why do they start spreading the gospel many years later? And you say my God is only mine because he is more popular? Are you kidding me? What other religion offers you eternal life and all you have to do to get rid of your sins is admit that you did them. Imagine if criminal justice worked that way. Also my God was a real person who did extraordinary things in his lifetime on Earth.

@retrogamer I doubt it can go into the past because how do you go into the past.?The only way I could think a time machine could work is if you go faster than the speed of light which would only bring you into the future only where you can't go back. That's evidence that you likely can't refute.

@samstevens, but Jesus was risen by God. Did you assume that the gospel would be scientific? @retrogamer, you're never going to be satisfied with the obvious answer that time travel is not possible. You're missing a key distinction between belief and knowledge. I believe that you exist. I haven't met you, but I believe in you. I wouldn't say I believe in my family because I know them. SamStevens says2015-04-05T20:02:48.7110359-05:00
Texas14:" Did you assume that the gospel would be scientific? " No since the corner stone of religion is faith. Faith is defined as a strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof. That being the case, there will be objective evidence of a god or the resurrection of Christ. This is why religion should be placed on the shelf with Thor, Zeus, and the Kraken.

@samstevens, you're pretty close to right. Religion is based on faith and requires no proof. That doesn't mean we reject it though. If you look at the world and don't believe in God, I feel sorry for you. I pray that all non believers see the world the way I see it. To both @samstevens and @briantheliberal, if all it takes for you to believe in anything is evidence, then you really shouldn't be religious or believe in anything metaphysical for that matter. Take universal human rights, you all believe in that and what is that if not a metaphysical principle?
SamStevens says2015-04-05T20:20:20.3746291-05:00
Texas14: "Religion is based on faith and requires no proof. That doesn't mean we reject it though." Using that argumentation, we shouldn't reject a person's claim when they say an invisible, all knowing dragon made its presence known at their dinner table. | "if all it takes for you to believe in anything is evidence" For me, evidence would constitute of scientific evidence-testable and objective. " then you really shouldn't be religious" If there is legitmate evidence to support the existence of a god, I'd have no problem being a theist. The same goes for accepting the existence of bigfoot or the Kraken. Why are you bringing metaphysics into this?
