If gay was really a choice, why would people choose something that is looked down upon by the majority, that is harmed by the majority and killed by the majority? That is prone commit suicide influenced by the majority? Honestly would you choose to be buffalo stuck surrounded in a Lions den? Not really a good comparison so sorry for that. But really, why would so many people choose to be something that puts their safety and rights at risk? Doesn't make much since so many people would choose to do so. I don't think it's a choice at all.
Lol if it were a choice then we'd all have sexual attraction towards both genders. Thats how it would have to work, by stating it's a choice, you're stating heterosexuality is also a choice and was not intended by nature, just reproduction was and there are ways to reproduce without sexual intercourse. We'd all be attracted to both male and female and would also be able to have gender preferences.
@Maslow You're not born gay or straight or any other sexuality. You choose to be that sexuality. The gender you're attracted to is a choice you make because you mostly choose to be attracted to that specific gender. Now yes, most people go through a phase or a permanent lifestyle of bi-curiousness! I will admit that I am very bi-curious at times but I am attracted to women. Bi-curiousness could be science because of sexual hormones in both men and women but the actual gender you choose to be attracted to is not science. It's a choice! End of argument!
It is tempting to carve up our attractions and attachments into neat, categorically pure boxes. Straight people fancy the opposite sex only, gay people fancy the same sex only, bisexual people want to shag either gender any chance they get – and anything that disrupts that simple narrative is either swept under the carpet or viewed as a sign that the person was previously lying to themselves.
Perhaps the more pertinent question then is not if gay people choose to be gay, but whether, on some level, straight people “choose” to be straight. In a society in which everyone is assumed to be heterosexual unless otherwise stated, coming out is still a leap that is not “chosen” easily. People don’t tend to do it unless they can’t imagine being any other way. “Choosing” not to consider that you might be anything other than the default though, especially if that default fits? That’s a cinch.
Robkwoods: BEing a drug abuser and having sex are two vastly different things. And one might argue YOU don't have a choice for drug seeking behavior, it is more complex than people realize if you have a dual diagnosis that compels you to self medicate.
@Eqcuis: Why do people smoke? They know it's bad for them, but they do it anyway. Same with gays. They are addicted to their perversion. They know it's not healthy, They know that others will judge them. But they do it anyway. Simple.
LittleBallofHate: Your sexuality is not an addiction. Are you addicted to sex? Is it bad for you? Do you have sex in any position other than missionary...Pervert? Do you have sex other than to procreate...Pervert? Are you married? Pervert? Well you know God will judge you but you do it anyway. So what are you trying to say, what YOU do is correct but what a gay person does is wrong? So you are judgmental like is says NOT to be in the bible. Ergo, you are not a true Christian you are just a homophobic asshole.
