Turkey leads with 1,750,000. Greece (poor greece) has taken 88k. Germany passes 100k and has OKed taking whomever comes. What are we willing to contribute? We have plenty of responsibility for the current mess.

Brave first voter. Nice
tajshar2k says2015-09-03T15:28:31.0186263Z
We can't have too much, but try to help as many as we can afford.
TBR says2015-09-03T16:06:20.0531713Z
A price tag might be a useful poll too. Where would you top out?
tajshar2k says2015-09-03T16:06:56.9162076Z
About 500,000.
TBR says2015-09-03T16:44:15.6397583Z
You saying 500,000 dollars?
tajshar2k says2015-09-03T16:45:01.0204492Z
No, I meant 500,000 refugees. What do you mean by dollars?
TBR says2015-09-03T16:49:32.0268271Z
You said if we can afford it. I am asking now for a price tag? What is the upper bound for adorable displaced people
tajshar2k says2015-09-03T16:51:37.3604407Z
I would say we spend at least 80 million dollars.
tajshar2k says2015-09-03T16:53:08.3731743Z
@Forthelulz So, you your house got blown up by government airstrikes, are you going to take a broom and clean all the debris?

TBR says2015-09-03T17:15:51.8949355Z
OK. 80m. Germany is on track to spend ~5 billion this year. Estimates for intervening with cruse misses run between 600m and a billion. We spent 7 billion in Iraq last year. Enforcing a "no fry zone" costs american tax payers 1 billion / MONTH. Brookings estimates a ground invasion to cost ~300 billion per year. Yea, I am willing to take ~1 million refugees and spend ~7-10 billion.

Varrack - Jump in.
Forthelulz says2015-09-03T18:11:08.4619735Z
No. First, I check to see if it's covered under my insurance (War? You mean I can't collect if it's collateral damage in a war?) Then I invest in a suitable shelter. Of course, I'd clean up the place. But if I get armed forces attacking me personally and directly, then I'll consider running.

@TBR. I see them as parasites. Just like in europe, they will come here, rely on welfare and cheat the system so they can't work. Then they will demand sharia law and muslim only zones just like in europe. They will work very low wage jobs and be the same as illegal immigrants.

I think that to help stabilize the world, we should invade Iraq, and Syria. Now before you say we shouldn't listen to me. First off I think we should help the Iraq government, in Iraq we will wipe out ISIS. In Syria we will attack ISIS, and the syarian government. Afterwords we help rebuild there economy's, we help rebuild there army, along with rebuilding a government. This government will be a rebuilic modeled after our's this will help the people have freedoms, and allow the economy to grow. While doing that we should help teach them about the world. This would take awhile though.

Iraq and Syria are being overtaken by terrorist militias thanks to the Bush Administration. Learn foreign policy please stargate, you have such a expansionist and nationalist attitude.
tajshar2k says2015-09-03T22:52:52.2075749Z
Its not the right thing though. Thats just what you think. Go ask the soldiers who actually have the balls to fight, and see whether they think its worth it.
stargate says2015-09-03T22:53:58.3207987Z
True but we need to help them, and one step closer to a better world, would be fighting those who kill unnessary, and oppress there own people.
triangle.128k says2015-09-03T22:55:28.2553752Z
We can't invade countries left and right stargate. It would be a MUCH better idea to simply aid Iran and Turkey to fight against ISIS.
tajshar2k says2015-09-03T22:56:13.2304635Z
We are not helping them though. Thats the thing. Thats like me killing accidentally killing a boy's dad, and then telling him. "Its for your own good pal" Its really simple, we are not helping anybody, but ourselves. Seriously, understand where ISIS is right now. We fight ISIS we strengthen Iran and Syria, and if we fight Syria we strengthen ISIS.
Varrack says2015-09-03T22:56:41.3262436Z
Syria is a tricky conflict. I think transporting refugees to the US would be good, but to do so would take a lot of effort.
Varrack says2015-09-03T22:58:02.5403642Z
It seems that xhammy meant we should bomb the perpetrators, not the actual refugees. That idea would probably take out refugees though.
tajshar2k says2015-09-03T22:58:07.5323962Z
So, the best thing is to do nothing. In ISIS's case. They aren't even a threat to us (yet)
stargate says2015-09-03T23:00:11.6623919Z
Sometimes there is no easy answer. It is only a wrong one, and a worse one. I believe that we need to stand up for what is right. Some will die, but we can not give up. We need to have a clear goal, a goal we need to be willing to give it our all in. You do not want our boys to die, I undetstabd. But right now we are the only ones willing to stop people who are evil. Will things always work, not all the time. But we can not give up. Never give up never surrender.

@stargate - I am asking a simple straightforward question. Who are we targeting.
TBR says2015-09-04T01:05:03.5769469Z
What I am getting at is, you have Bathists, Opposition (rebels) al-qaeda, Kurdis, ISIL. Just who are you fighting for and against? Don't want to target civilians? Well, who exactly do you mean by that? Women, anyone under 18? 17? 15? This is not good vs. Evil the way you want to see it. Its just not that cut and dry.
TBR says2015-09-04T01:11:23.2438817Z
@stargate - Overcrowding? How large is the city you live in? Let's say it is ~250k. If we took 1 million that would be an additional .000833 people in your city. Too much?
stargate says2015-09-04T01:12:20.3881469Z
In Syria we attack military compounds held by government militias and the governments military. This will be anyone in the ranks of the Syrian military or actively supports it by fighting for there government. We would launch a ground and air campaign, we should take the coastline first, then move towards the capital. At the same time get turkey to move in troops to help fight ISIS in the north. We would meant with turkey hopefully in mid Syria. So basically any military group or militia group following the government, do not kill them if the surrender and treat them well when they are POW's. While I do not want to send military aid the the Kurds and free Syrian army, we should not attack them. For now they are allies, just try not to make them inti a new Isis. In northern Syria fight anyone who supports ISIS and will attack us, and do nt surrender. If captured if they are a regular solder then treat as pow for now, if they are high up in command charge the with war crimes. These crimes are crimes aginest humanity, along with many others. Dose this ansew the question.
komododragon8 says2015-09-04T01:15:24.7127983Z
Stargate: While I agree some military action should take place, to what extant can you say that a full invasion would be the most effective way of stabalizing Iraq and Syria. For one thing an invasion would further damage infrastructure in the country and a bombing campaign would lead to greater civilian casualties and most likely increase support for terrorist groups. Also there's no guarantee that a government we set up will be effective or even stable. Ultimately the question is to what extant would a military invasion be effective in actually fixing many of these problems.
stargate says2015-09-04T01:15:54.0980265Z
No but I mean only take the amount we can provide for. I do not want them living in some huts here, no they should be in like apartments or houses. Then we should give them the option to staym and take the us citizenship test, or go. I am fine with them coming, but they need to come here first, and past a few tests. Like make sure wedo not allow a terrorist in, or like a drug dealer in. You know check up's.
stargate says2015-09-04T01:18:20.7885877Z
Civilians are anyone who live in that nation. By not kill I mean do to kill unarmed civilians, or civilians who support us. Basically do not bomb a home, or an area where it is only civilians. Try to only target military and terrorists bases.
komododragon8 says2015-09-04T01:20:10.0542274Z
^ was that comment for me?
stargate says2015-09-04T01:24:15.4324809Z
Well Imwant more of a mass ground invasion. I would want to wipe the maingoverment and terrorists forces in two years at least. Once we do that we should build roads, rebuild cities, crack down on there corruption, rebuild there country, rebuild the government. Basically try to fix the many problems they have and set them on a right track. The way we rebuild is have troops there until its fixed, and then have another five year period where we watch terrorist and corruption levels. If they get to high come back in and try to fixit more. While some of this plan could change, that is what I think right now. Right now they are really bad off, so even if only some things work. That would most Idly still be Better. Things could only get better from here on if we help.
stargate says2015-09-04T01:25:16.4869917Z
No the last is, I think.
komododragon8 says2015-09-04T01:38:29.3983769Z
What about the surrounding nations, Afterall both Russia and China may get a little paranoid and might even fund further insurection against us. We would also have to deal with the nationalists who would be against any foreign involvement what so ever. Then theres nations like Iran who would most certainly try something to stop us. What solutions would you have to solve these problems?
TBR says2015-09-04T01:46:31.7951667Z
1,000,000 : 350,000,000. Or 1 : 350. That is what 1 million more would be like. They don't need to live in huts, they don't need additional housing built. Between NY (and the burgers), grater Chicago, LA, SF we could find enough living for them without a sweat. Are you listening? As for tracking, we can do that just fine.
stargate says2015-09-04T01:54:39.4854929Z
Yes I am, as I said I am fine with it. Just not all at once, and not everyone.
stargate says2015-09-04T01:58:08.1056302Z
Well as long as the people there do not attack us then there are fine. Well Iran should be busy in Yemen. Though if we they attack us, Saudis arbia would help us Becuase Iran, plus NATO due to that would be us getting attacked. Russia and china would not directly attack us, but of we fine they fund terrorists. Them they might just find some heavily armed rebels.

Reed this link as what an example of humanitarian means 300,000 TOTAL live in Iceland, and 12,000 have signed up personally to take in refugees. In relative numbers, that would be ~12,000,000 (12 million) Americans willing to accept refugees into their homes.
tajshar2k says2015-09-04T03:00:24.7100073Z

Look we can do good, plus I gusse you want us to pull all of our men back. But if we do that and stop caring about the world, then there will be a power vacuum. Just like there wasa power vacuum in Iraq once we left, but this time image it on a much much larger scale. Also aging south Korea, Japan, military intervention dose work when we do it right. The reason we failed in Iraq wasa number of reasons but here is some, one we left to earlier, two the country refused to untie around one banner, three there military was weak so Isis whipped them out. Also please do not do personial attacks.

But we are doing it for them at that point. Along with removing some extremely bad people from this world. Europe doesn't want them, most can't get here so where do they go? The more human solution would be to attack ISIS and the Syrian government for crimes of humanity. It is better to fix Syria now rather then latter. We have ships and planes. Same transport that would be taking US to fight them. || "The more human solution would be to attack ISIS and the Syrian government for crimes of humanity. It is better to fix Syria now rather then latter. I am willing to consider the options to reach the goal." - The option is to leave them the hell alone, and actually BE humanitarian. komododragon8 says2015-09-04T19:19:50.4538797Z
Stargate: Iran may consider a US occupation of Iraq as a greater threat to them than Yemen. While I doubt China and Russia would intervene by force they would still support nationalists and other insurgents in the area. You need to convince people that a large scale military invasion would be effective against further insurgency funded by three of the largest powers in the area.
stargate says2015-09-04T20:41:57.0543224Z
One if thatdid happen then it could be counted as a proxy war. If this was the case then it would be even more importent in prefoimg military action and sticking with it. We ae the largest power on earth, if needed we could easily take them out. Russia and china well if them fund terrorists and rebels, then there would be no choice other then start forming rebels in those nations. They might se it as a threat, but they shouldn't. For one we wouldn't nessasarly get anything out of it. Other then making the area stable, and making hoppfukky a new ally. Now why should we risk it? Here is why, one these enmities have violated international law, they sell and buy other humans, kill unarmed civilians, barely any freedoms, so they fear us do to story's rather then being thought about us. This could fix it, two spreading freedoms and making a new ally, this could allow us to have a stronger foothold in the region, three torove a point to Russia, china and Iran if need be.
stargate says2015-09-04T20:44:23.2584596Z
It dosn't need to be sharia, but it is one of the logical choices to preform this action in. There is many others that I want to invade and create a better place for the people there. But you have to pick and choice. Plus we need to do something other wise ISIS might involve into a bigger threat. Iran is the most likely to try to stop us.

You need to be able to convince the military leaders that sending huge amounts of troops is the best course of action. Not only would an invasion cost billions of dollars but it would also risk countless American, Iraqi, and Syrian lives. Also in recent memory there have been 3 major invasions to fight insurgents, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. In all of those the US while acomplishing some of its goals did experience major setbacks. Our leaders will be weary of another invasions and before many of them will support this you would need to offer objective evidence that this will bring stability.

Well for one we should stay for at least six years after we win. When we do this we should clear up the rebels build there cities, roads, government, education systems, food aid, medical aid. They are really bad off, the people there probably want change, after ww2 Japan wanted change they wanted peace and we offered them peace and rebuilt the nation. I say set up a spy network there first, ask refgues if they think this would solve the promblem when we do this we will help them, we should not treat the people there badly. We could win, but we need the full support of the people here, and hopefully there. We should not torture them, the only people I say torture is high and I man high up in the command network. Regular men should be treated well, do not kill civilians. Basically once we goin and win, help them, tell them about our culture and our reasons of why war had to happen. Iraq failed due to our unwillingness to stay longer, and for picking the dumiest reason to go to war with them. We failed to teach them about ourselves. Plus there is some major problems our regular army is good and fellow orders and usually do not kill civilians on propose. But when we use private armies there use our flag but there are many mass killings of civilians. This creates a major promblem of them not trusting us. It might make it harder but try to to use private armies.

Also try t get them to unite under one flag, but do not force them to. Just try to make them understand there diffreness and respect them. We have been doing mass bombing campaigns, while this dose destroy the nation. This results in massive amounts of civilian deaths. So d bombings still but lessened. Use our overwhelming main army to restore peace. Then rebuiD the nation.

Three main goals here wipe out Isis, remove Surinam government, restore peace and stability.

Well your offering a somewhat reformed way of stabalizing the country and I respect that even if I believe that there are better and less risky ways of doing so.

I'm surprised so many people want over 1 million people. You do know ISIS operates right in the region right? It's literally a huge risk letting in so many at a time. I wonder why countries like Saudi Arabia couldn't give a damn...

@tajshar2k - It makes me proud that so many are voting to open our country to so many. It really makes me shed a tear. This is MY America, and MY Americans. We are strong, and capable of helping without fear.

I thought you didn't like America.

Hey don't get me wrong. I want to help these poor people, but we can't just let 1 million refugees flood in. If you want to let in this many, you better be ready to fight for it.

@Gingeral Doesn't everyone cheat the system including politicians, banks, corporations, law firms, even everyday people. So you really can't be talking
