@russian_metaphor_man I'm sure the people who are being targeted for annihilation would object. Plus we would have to answer to their families. Since when has genocide been morally acceptable? And @triangle.128k Which lines are you talking about?
There'd be no objections once you wipe them out, prisoners object to being in prison does not mean we should listen to them. And If you read my vote you will notice I said to wipe out their families as well thus no one to answer to, problem solved.
@russian_metaphor_man But what crime did they commit? What would be the reason for killing them? Also, killing the people that would mourn them would just further the web since we're all connected somehow. Are you going to kill all the people that worked with the mutant? Great, now an entire business has run out of workers. Then you need to kill all of their families and everyone that would mourn them. Try thinking a few moves ahead next time.
If any of these policies happen and this was real then there would be chaos. There would be fighting there would be hate, and it will only make the problem bigger. Along with creating an divided, it will make our nation more divided. I will tell you now if that one day happens there will be choas there will be fighting and blood would spill on both sildes.
@ladiesman Sadly I do to, witch is why I am trying to make everyone understand why we can not do that. I know it will lead to hate and deaths. Things would be said and blood would spill, it would violet everything that we stand for as an people and as an nation. I mean look at this world arn't there enough problems guys rather then creating more with trying to make them die out. If any of those acts got passed it will only lead to choas , death, fear and hate. It will most likely start more wars, the better option would be to treat them as equal and help them rather then punish them. This is why those bills/acts should never be passed and anyone who says otherwise should rethink this, and think what if thst was me.
I can not belive some people would want those policies to happen. They are still human, while different yes and maybe more powerful dose that give us the right to kill them or treat them as the second class. I am saded by this, and those that would support it shame on you.
Just think for an moment, think what if I was one of them, what if my friends where on of them. Would you want to be casted out and feared and maybe even killied just due to being different? I though we have learned sense the days of slavery and the years if segregation. But I fear we haven't and it only proves how some humans fear more, and want me be trated better then others or keep others weak. This makes me sad thinking what would happen if anyone of these happen and if this happens.
@russian_metaphor_man No it is not that simple that would be genocide. It is wrong and should not happen if this was real. All that would do is start more wars and more people would die. Inside of treating them as outcasts why not welcome them with open arms, and if they do not want the power just modify there genes. There is so much good we could do inside of killing them or treating them as the second class.
Wylted Maybe it would happen, but at least have the government stay out of it. Everyone if this was real think about what if it was me, or someone you cared for. Think about our history and the history of this world in general. If any of those policies got passed then there woukd ine be chaos, two be fighting, three there wuould be death on both sildes.
@stargate Safety mostly. This poll and the one that ladiesman posted identical to this one a long time ago both use the X men as a picture, so I will use that universes superpowers as a base. I voted for registration because, given the destructive powers that some of the mutants contain, it is wise for the government to at least have an adequate record of who is in their country, what they can do, and where they are. Think of it like a Immigrant Permeant Residency (Green Card). Plus fear and eventually hate will rise up between the mutants and non-mutants (just like in the X-men universe), so having a registration system in place can be a middle ground from doing nothing and removing/exterminating these mutants. It won't appease the radical members of both factions, but it will be enough for the moderate majority to deal with.
@stargate The very existence of mutants makes the problem already bad. There is going to be fighting, vigilantly justice, discrimination, and even outright hate crimes on both sides. The best we can do is try a mediate the damage as much as possible. And given the fact that a regular person can only due so much damage by themselves, the thought of a mutant who has the power of a WMD just walking around without anyone monitoring them is rather terrifying. Even an accident can have devastating consequences when it comes to some of these superpowers. Take someone with Cyclopes ability. What happens if he accidentally takes off his glasses and saws a skyscraper in half. People with this kind of power can cause 9/11 style damage without even trying. They are a security risk and should be at least be in a registered database.
@stargate Will it? It doesn't do that with all the immigrants who have to register to live in the US. Or with gun owners when they have to register their firearms. Or, to go to an extreme case, when we detained large portions of the ethnic Japanese population in the US during WW2. Registration is an incredibly minor and soft handed treatment compared to what would happen to them in other parts of the world.
@stargate Never said it would, just that it will go over well with most. The radical anti-mutant side will be asking for the complete removal of all mutants and the pro-mutant side would be asking for complete freedom. We can't please everyone in this situation, so I chose a middle ground that the vast majority can live with. Their is going to be some damage, Im just trying to make it as painless as possible.
@ladiesman Unlikely. The Government is not to privy to putting personal information from various registries online, mainly because it doesn't accomplish anything positive. It is not like a sex offender list were the info is put in the public domain for prevention/warning purposes. A registry is mostly for administrative and record keeping purposes. Now a list could be made for those mutants who have, lets say, committed a felony or have a history of violence (which is something the public does benefit from knowing), but the government gains nothing for posting the whole registry online.
@stargate Hacking? Really? Is that the next best counter to registration on the list? If you don't do something because you are afraid of "Hacking", then we wouldn't have personal emails, online banking, any military project, any database of any kind, or the ENTIRE internet for that matter. If you are afraid of hacking, then you hire hackers (yes, it is a legal profession) to build a firewall or whatever they call it to defend your network. This is what every single major corporation, agency, or organization does. The Pentagons network gets hacked daily yet they don't close everything down. Thats just silly.
@58539672 No I am just saying, no the reason I am against it is because it is an form on inequality. It treats them as second class civilians, it is unfair and unequal treatment. The best way to make this problem turn out good would be to treat them as equals, and not force them to register. The best way is to allow them to live out there daily lives in peace, now maybe the check up here and there. But we should embrace there abilities, instead of fearing them and turning against them out of fear and letting fear control you. This idea of yours while yes it could help both sildes if done right and people do not overact, it simply will not fix the issue at hand. I fear what would happen is the people turning against these superhumans, then fighting happening and these superhumans would defend themselves. Also how do we know it wouldn't stop there, who knows what woukd happen after that kn the next 4, 8 years.
@stargate We have every immigrant who is allowed in the country to register with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services and with the Department of Homeland Security. People who want to Vote, collect welfare, get a loan, obtain a patent, get a copy of any legal document, get married, get divorced, buy a home, file your taxes, buy a car, get insurance, mail something, and even dying have to register. If you have ever filled out a form, you have probably registered for something. Registration is not treating people like second class citizens. It is simply a record or an official list. If certain people have superpowers, the government will, and should, want a record of all of them.
@stargate Nothing will stop that. Having the Government treat them like regular human beings will not stop that. It will only create a lot of unknown variables that could get a lot of people killed. The US Government has a responsibility to protect the wellbeing of its citizens, and having undocumented mutants running around threatens that. The government would be failing in one of its key responsibilities if it did nothing.
To force superhumans to register with the government would invade their privacy and violate their civil liberties. People like that require secrecy to protect their secret identities and loved ones. Registration would also force them to act under official regulation, akin to law enforcement.
