How do you know this? And why is it sad? Military draft for what war? Are we invading a country? Why? Or are we the ones being invaded. You have to make these questions more specific if you want the best results. Anyway, my answer is going to be the same in every scenario. My life and the people I love live's always come first before a nation or other people.
How do I know this.. Perhaps I know from personal experience??.. Also, it is the nation which gives life to the people in it... It's not like a draft would be used to go round up Jews and send them to concentration camps.. It would be sad if this country were to ever fall, which it seems like it is on the way to falling..
Brainwashing seems like it is doing really well with those who believe in these false conspiracy theories easily.
Lol, that humans didn't go to the moon or that the 9/11 attack is an inside job are conspiracy theories. The fact that people are easily controlled by propaganda is not a conspiracy theory. Oh wait, you thought I was talking about this?
Nope, I'm not talking about that lol.
Haroush, this message is for you.
"The active-duty military currently contains more than 65,000 immigrants—5 percent of the force—"
"In 2011 there were 40.4 million foreign-born people residing in the United States"
313.9 million people were living in the US as of 2012.
Let's do some math:
We'll just round the 40.4 million foreign-born to 40 million and the 313.9 million currently in the us to 320 million. These rounds are both in favor of the point you're trying to make.
320mil - 40mil = 280mil. There are 280mil US-born in the US.
65k is 5% of the US military. That makes 1,300,000 US military members total. If you Google it, the number is a little higher. We'll make it 1,400,000, which is higher than the real number, to work in your favor. 1,330,000 is the number after we take out 5% to count only the US born.
1.33 million is 0.475% of 280 million.
0.475% of US-born citizens enlist in the US military.
65k is 0.1625% of 40 million.
0.1625% of foreign-born US citizens enlist.
You can check the numbers here if you want to: http://www.percentagecalculator.net/
You might be thinking that some minorities are foreigners. Even if they were, 74.6 % of the US military is white.
The overwhelming majority of the US military is US born and a large majority of that is white. It's not just because there are more US born in the US either. A much higher percentage of US-born US citizens enlist than foreign-born US citizens. What are you talking about when you say "It's ironic many foreigners are more willing to serve our country, than our own people.. It's sad.."?
You say personal experience is your reason. You're either misinformed, lying to yourself, or lying to us. I was in the USMC for 4 years and I also worked with the Navy and the Army during that time. I've had none of your "experiences." I don't believe you honestly believe what you've said.
If you don't want to fight for your country, leave it. Simple. Don't suckle on the tit of it's benefits while bashing it. If you don't want to be here, there are millions of other people who do. I've been to places where calling out your government can get you killed. America allows you to be able to do that. If you don't want those freedoms America offers, stop accepting them and leave. I can assure you that you won't be missed.
Yama, not supporting war and not wanting freedoms are two different things. Anyway, most wars the US has fought haven't been for our freedom anyway. Fighting for other's freedoms is a different matter, but people certainly shouldn't be forced to do it.
Do you know what makes the world turn? Money and power. Going to war wins both of those things, in some cases. Either way, luxuries have a price. Consider it a raffle ticket. For every happy moment you have here, you have the chance of being called to serve.
Wasn't there a draft for the Vietnam war? That war very pointless. Usually (not always, like you said sometimes they could be very important wars) drafts are created because not enough people want to fight.
If say for example that Russia was invading the US and we were short on troops and had the potential of losing, would you not be willing to fight for your nation even if it were a draft to fend off occupation?
Most Vietnamese wanted to be communists. If we allowed them to vote, democratically, they would have become communists. Also us "helping" them caused them extreme amounts of death and suffering. Also after we left, a couple years later the South was overrun and the entire country became communist; so yes, that war was pointless for basically everyone.
Well. We could have avoided the entire Afghanistan war, if we didn't supply the mujahiddin with weapons and billions of dollars. The Soviets would have been able to keep Afghanistan, install a strict secular government, and today we wouldn't even know who the Taliban were.
If both the North and South, together, voted on what they wanted to be, then they would have been communist, as there were more people who were communists in the North, than there were people for democracy in the South.
As I have said before, I truly want peace. Even if I have to create mountains of corpses, I want my family to have a good world to live in. If my enemies abuse my kindness of letting them live, I'd just remove them. No need punishing a nation for the crimes of a few.
If Russia invaded (which is impossible), first thing I would do would be to try and get myself and everyone I love to safety, then I would try to have us all move to a neutral first world country (or any neutral country that is considered "safe" aka not overrun with crime); however, if that fails (as I'm not able to leave) then I would eventually fight. However, I would only fight defensively, not on the front lines (though I doubt I would have a choice, as I don't make the calls); however, if I am surrounded by the enemy (knowing I will lose) then I would surrender (thankfully I know how to speak Russian) and maybe (only if I knew Russia was winning the war) I would join Russia, as a way to protect not only myself, but the people I love and care about. I have no allegiance to any flag, religion, or idea.
Afghanistan under Soviet rule was 100 times better than it was ruled under the Taliban. Under Soviet rule, women were given equal rights, land given to the peasants, education given to everyone, religions was removed from government. Sure Soviet rule was far from perfect, and was very oppressive, but it was not nearly as bad as the rule under the Taliban. Also, ask yourself this. Do you really think 9/11 would have happened if the Soviets (and later the communist government of Afghanistan (after the fall of the USSR)) ruled Afghanistan? No, I truly believe it wouldn't have happened. Actually, scratch that, I know it wouldn't have happened.
Land in the soviet union was not owned by civilians ( I feel that peasant is a degrading word) but rather by the government. Land would have been stolen form the populace already owning land. Women would have been given equal rights as men... Too bad men didn't have to many rights in the soviet union either. Education would have been given to everyone, which is great. The Taliban was at least in effective in enforcing their rules on certain tribes, the soviets would not have that difficulty. 9/11 was perpetuated by al'qadea, not by the Taliban. 9/11 still would have happened. But the Taliban still did carry out a lot of other acts of terror.
Best way to beat your enemy, is to have them underestimate you. Show yourself as if you are weak and frail, but secretly you are a deadly killing machine. They attack you, filled with overconfidence, and then BOOM, you destroy them with ease, with no mercy. I'm sort of like that, I don't go looking for fights, and would run from most of them, but if someone gets to a point where I can't run and begging wont help (also begging helps you seem very weak, and gives your opponent great overconfidence), then I would destroy them as I am a fantastic fighter and have great speed and even strength (even though I don't look like it).
I know al'qadea did cause 9/11, and most of the terrorists who where there in the front lines were from Saudi Arabia, but Taliban greatly helped al'qadea, in which without that help, 9/11 wouldn't have been possible (or at least as huge).
Imagine if Pokemon existed. If we could use them as weapons. Beings capable of unlimited power! To rein fire from above, tremors from below und floods all around! Some can even kill with just a thought. Team Rocket already uses them to terrorize the populace... But they thought too small! We could hold the power to bend time and space! No.. The power to recreate our very reality! DEUS EX! The power of GOD! ... Pokemon.
Better to live in Nazi Germany as a citizen (it wasn't that bad for everyone to be completely honest, well execpt for the people who were seen as unfit, but luckily I don't fit that label) then be killed or tortured.
I would rather live, my need to know what happens in this world would be enough to keep me wanting to live, no matter what; unless I was psychically tortured with no hope of escape, then I would rather die.
And why is that hard to believe? Because you cannot see it? People through out all time have seen this paradise, and we would have dismissed them, had it not been that they also saw things that no one else but a few have seen
It all depends on the person, there are stupid atheists and there are smart atheists, same goes for Christians, some are complete morons and other are also smart, There are brave atheists and also cowardly atheists, same for Christians. You can't say things like "Which is worse, living life as a coward and then dying in fear. Or living life happily and dying soundly" as it is different for everyone. By the way, I said my versions hoping you could see why it didn't work, I purposely made them as biased as possible. Anyway, gotta go sleep. I'll see you tomorrow.
Being able to project yourself on the astral plain is a skill reachable through meditation. I can even do it in places within around 20 yards of me. IT's really just your hearing and other senses helping you get a full picture.
Yama is right, but in this case, the family clearly just made the whole thing up. They are obviously out to make some money (hence the book and movie they made). Even the story itself is flawed, they show the kid a picture of his grandfather, who the kid claims he saw in heaven, but the kid says his grandfather didn't look old but young. Okay, so now the logical thing to do would be to show him a picture of a young man (who isn't his grandfather) and see if he says it's him, but no, they show him his grandfather first in his young body, and of course the kid would say "yes that's him". Also many grandfathers look like their sons, so the kid would have said yes to any picture that looked like his dad. Maybe the next time this kid goes to heaven, he can ask Jesus to tell him somethings that he would have never known that are outside his family and community (such as predict things in the future exactly multiple times) or ( or better yet, have him know the locations of all the kidnapped victims in the united states, or at least a good amount) that would be much better "evidence" for a Heaven and/or religion.
If their is one thing i hate more than cowards and deserters it is people that are not in the military that dress up as military personnel, and i don't mean for Halloween, but for discounts that are for Military Personnel because they put their lives on the line for our freedom and the freedom of others.
It depends on the war. If it were to be a "Vietnam War-type" draft, with a war similar to Vietnam, then I would probably flee the country, but it would be better to join a branch of the nation's army that is most preferable by you. For example, it is 1969, I am 18, I have signed up to become a United States Air Force Fighter Pilot, to pilot an F-4 Phantom II. The second example, I have not signed up, it is the same year, and I am the same age, though when the lottery is finished, my draft number is called.
