We have been naked for thousands of years, we only care about female breasts for the last two thousand, and visible nudity was only frowned upon in the victorian age. Why should there be any problem with nudity
Boobs aren't the same as penises or vaginas because they're not sex organs (yes, I know penises are also used for peeing). And they're just as much sex organs on males as they are on females. Besides, small children wouldn't even see breasts sexually (just as they wouldn't see a topless man sexually), because they're children.
Children survive just fine in tribal societies without clothes, why are so many people say "OHHHH the CHILDREN!!!" I mean, look at Europe, half the female statues are topless. And in Japan, they don't even rate boobs as 18+. Of all the countries on Earth, the USA, Canada and the UK are the most prude. Seriously guys! Join the rest of the world.
Breasts are a part of the body that only women have. That's why they're private. If men had them to then they wouldn't be private and innapropiate for boys who don't have them to see. Your ass is a nother thing when though both genders have one
Anyway, if we ignore the fact that men have boobs too, based on the idea that because only women have beasts, they are private, males should also not be able able to walk around without a top legally they are usually flat chested where as women aren't.
Did I phrase that in a really confusing way? I think I did, what I meant was:
if boobs being unique to females (which they kind of aren't) makes them private, so female toplessness should be illegal
Male toplessness should also be illegal based on this same principal as flat chestedness is unique to males.
Just to back up BblackkBbirdd - http://www.livescience.com/4971-men-breasts.html
Men have breasts because the fetus starts out female.
Anyway, Dilara, why is it dangerous for boys to see breasts? Also, why do breasts have to be private?
Women breasts are different than man breasts. And I don't know why people don't want their boys seeing breasts l. Probably because it is a part of the body that men are especially attracted to making it a sexual part in a way. Not saying little kids will be attracted to them and I'm not saying you should cover up every body part People are attracted to. That's how some people feel
@Dilara - You have failed to convince me of either point. The entirety of the female body is "sexual" when you are a pubescent boy. Artificially adding to this "mystery" of what is and is not covered MAKES them (breasts) overly sexualized. Point is, if you are on a beach wearing a bikini, boys WILL be looking regardless.
I think the issue here is that certain types of nudity is considered sexual in nature. Not all nudity should be considered sexual and breasts probably shouldn't be considered sexual either. Breasts aren't sexual because their function isn't for sex. The vagina is for a distinct sexual purpose.
Society has made breasts a sexual object. Biology didn't.
What we do need to do as a society is to stop sexualising women's bodies (and sometimes men's as well.) Nudity in general shouldn't be considered an open invitation for anything and it shouldn't be looked on as being immoral or mysterious. Being nude in and of itself is not immoral. I also don't think women's bodies should be a mystery to boys. If boys are accustomed to seeing a nude female body then they are probably less likely to sexualise and objectify it as being mysterious and something they want to use or play with. (So long as they see the female body as something that should be respected - not something that's a means to sexual advancement.)
Also boobs (the nipple area) are very sensitive. That's partly why people don't wander about with their boobs out. They could get bumped. Same reason why people don't show their genitals . Not only are they private but they're sensitive.
Some men have very sensitive nipples. Should they not be allowed to show their chest out on the beach? Do you think nude beaches shouldn't exist? Do you think that it should be a criminal offense for a woman to have her breasts out in public?
Men don't have big chests like women. Nude beaches are fine because you to there to be nude and expecting to see nude people. I don't expect to see a nude womb at target. Women's Breasts are private like genitals and butts are.
But some men do have big chests like women do. Hence the term 'man-boobs.' Also, do you think it should be a criminal offense if a woman's breasts are out in public? Currently - at least in the UK, I believe it's considered indecent exposure with a potential penalty of two years in prison. In the US, a woman could face fines or imprisonment. Do you think that's right?
Wait, wait, did you really just say that 'fat people shouldn't show off their bodies'? Why shouldn't they show off their bodies? Is it that offensive that they shouldn't? What determines that someone is fat? (Society!) Some people have faster metabolisms and others have slower. It's not their fault, is it? I just feel like your statement, Dilara, was somewhat discriminatory against those who may be just a bit curvier.
I get that you think they it's allowed, but like minnymilerza says, shouldn't women be allowed to go topless? (Allowed being the key word, here?) Why should they be fined for it???? Should curvier people be fined as well for showing off their bodies????
Fat people should be allowed to show off their bodies but they shouldn't l. I said fat not curvy. There is a difference between a big belly, double chin and rolls of fact and a thin waist, big thighs, a big butt and big breasts. Like I said my bra size is d34 and I'm 120 pounds and 5 foot 5. I'm plenty " curvy". My definition of curvy is a thin waist, large things and boobs. Yours might be a large belly and double chin. Men are attracted to thin curvy women because it shows health and a healthy women means health children. If people feel bad about being fat they shouldn't call it curvy. It's not at all. It's a way to make fat people feel good about their unhealthy bodies. Thin is healthier.
Why should women who have their breasts out be fined for doing so? The question is - should female toplessness be legal - not should women have their breasts out at all.
Also, why shouldn't "fat" people show off their bodies? What's so wrong about it?
If using the term curvy makes those who are overweight feel better - then why not use the term curvy? Why can't we make others feel better? If calling them fat makes them feel bad, why call them fat? It just seems like a way to hurt their feelings - and just isn't very nice. (Besides, who determines whether another is fat or not? I might be fat to someone, you might be considered fat to someone, who knows? It's just an arbitrary word. Even though it's arbitrary, some people take offense to it, so we shouldn't call them fat if they don't want to be called it! (By the way, I'm not calling you fat, I'm trying to make a point that the term is subjective dependent on the viewer.))
Thinner is not always healthier. Larger isn't healthier, either. Healthier is healthier. Whether that means someone looks "fat" or not - so long as they're healthy that's okay. Some healthy people look thin. Some healthy people look "fat." Some healthy people look average. (Note that "fat" is in quotes - because I don't really want to use the term, but it was the term you used.)
Not all men are attracted to thin, curvy women! Men are attracted to a variety of body types. Why are you generalizing these things?
Being fat is not a matter of opinion. If your body weight is above a certain amount (depending on your height, muscle ect) you are over weight. People shouldn't feel ok with bodies like that. Those try led of bodies lead to serious health problems. Just like people shouldn't be ok with anorexic bodies. And I'm not going to let the term curvy be ruined by applying it to obese non curvy in attractive bodies. Curvy is curvy. Fat is fat. Skinny is skinny. They are all very different. Curves means a thin waist, large hips and a large but not disgusting rolls of fat. Skinny people can be curvy.
