  • Still? We are now great.

  • Was it ever a question?

  • Depends largely on you idea of "Great", but I believe so.

  • 11th freest economy in the world, 10th highest per capita GDP, the total GDP is the highest, unemployment rates are dropping, inflation is low, etc.

  • It's not as great as it could be, but I have hope it will turn around. Some comments remind it that it's better than I think usually think it is.

  • Sure, there were probably better days, but I'm not leaving unless a Republican president other than FiFi is elected.

  • We are still great, but as a whole we are loosing sight of the greatness that we hold so dear and treasure.

  • We might not be as great as we were 40 to 50 years ago as we were building up the American empire so that the future could thrive but we still have the values to be a great country. We have great men and women who walk unto the battlefield and fight, we have people who want to change the world, and we have people like me. So yes we are great and anyone who disagrees let them, they put as many reasons as they want behind their arguement that doesn't make it true. Thank you.

  • We'received losing to China, the Iranians are at our door with Nukes, Russia is slicing up Ukraine, in times of crisis we need charasmatic leaders, like Donald Trump.

  • For America to still be great, it would have to have ever been great.

There is absolutely no evidence to support the statement that America's the greatest country in the world. You're seventh in literacy, twenty-seventh in math, twenty-second in science, forty-ninth in life expectancy, 178th in infant mortality, third in median household income, number four in labor force, and number four in exports. YOU lead the world in only three categories: number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending, where you spend more than the next twenty-six countries combined, twenty-five of whom are allies. None of this is the fault of an ignorant public , but you, nonetheless, are without a doubt, a member of the WORST-period-GENERATION-period-EVER-period, so when you ask what makes you the greatest country in the world, I don't know what the frak you're talking about?!
stargate says2015-09-22T20:20:58.7564659Z
We never said we where, the poll just asks are we still great. But I think we are up them on the scale of what nations are the best.

@chandlerrouse We are also number one in total humanitarian aid given, we are the wealthiest nation on the planet, we haven't had a war on our soil in 200 years, we are number one in total Olympic Gold Medals, we are the largest producer of food, we have the largest Gold reserves, we have the largest consumer market in the world, the largest GDP in the world, 83 of the top 400 Universities in the world and 6 within the top 10, 128 of the Global 500 are American companies, we are the longest running democracy in the world, we accept more immigrants each year than any other nation, we are the largest oil producer, we have the 3rd highest population, we dominate the film industry and social media, we have a majority share in most international organizations, are a permeant member of the security council, a founding member of the UN which we supply 22% of its budget, we have the most extensive infrastructure on the planet, we lead the space industry (both governmental and private industries), we have the most private businesses, and we have the most extensive national parks. That "YOU lead the world in only three categories: number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending, where you spend more than the next twenty-six countries combined, twenty-five of whom are allies" is simply BS that Hollywood made up for a movie. An AMERICAN movie.

@chandlerrouse The quote you paraphrased was the first that came to me :D It is like our minds were linked when we read this poll. @58539672 As a percentage of our Federal Budget, we give 1/7th of 1% of our budget to other countries and of other countries, we give $5 billion / year to Israel. Germany has accepted many, many, many more Syrians this year than our country allows as immigrants. America's military budget compared with the world... America is 42% of the pie. America + China is 51% of the pie. The rest of the countries on the planet (194+; depending on how someone counts countries) combined pay less for their militaries than China + America.
58539672 says2015-09-23T13:49:34.3369285Z
@Sarra How does anything you said negate anything that I said. It doesn't matter what percentage of the budget it is, we still give more humanitarian aid than any other country (31 billion a year). I never even mentioned the refugee crisis, but the US still accepted more migrants each year than any other nation (45 million total in 2013. Next best is Russia at 11 million). And I never denied the military budget being the largest, just that it is not the only thing we are number one in.
chandlerrouse says2015-09-23T15:50:45.9617969Z
58539672 Some of what you said is true. Germany has the second largest gold supply and look at how small we are in comparison? No you haven't had a war on your soil but you have been at war perpetually since 1776. 99% of your GDP is owed to China. You only have 1% PhD's Germany has 6%. You infrastructure is crumbling, you are NOT a humanitarian country you are an Imperialist nation who goes to war over a drop of oil and use the scorched earth policy everywhere you fight. You have ZERO allies. Yes you have private industry, that is called capitalism or abject greed. You can say or BELIEVE whatever you want, but it may behoove you to get your head out of the MIddle EAst sands and wake up America Is not great, but it could be, again.

58539672 says2015-09-23T16:29:07.8510310Z
@chandlerrouse Most of that statement is outright false. China controls 8% of our debt. Only 20% is foreign owned in general. Germany (the wealthiest nation in the EU) has a gold reserves of 3384.2 tonnes (45% of it is being held within US banks, 66% is abroad in general) while the US has 8133.5 tonnes, more than double the amount. As for PhD's, Germany has more, but when you count all the other forms of education (MDs, Masters, and even simple Bachelors) the US is ranked 4th in the most college educated nation (3rd Japan, 2nd Israel, 1st Canada). Germany doesn't even make the top 10 list. We have given more humanitarian aid than any other nation on the planet. In fact the amount of aid we are giving has been going up over the last decade. Germany's has been going down. Also Germany is Capitalist. In fact every developed nation on the planet is Capitalist. The US, as of 2015, is mostly self sufficient when it comes to oil, so we don't really need to take any anymore. We Have MANY allies (as you yourself pointed out when you criticized our military spending). In fact about 150 of the 192 or so nations on the planet are listed as some form of Ally to the US. Our infrastructure is the largest in the world, with 4 million miles of roadways, 226,400 miles of railways, 594,000 bridges, the most extensive water and electrical grids on the planet, a third of all the airports on the planet, 360 seaports, and we have 99 of the worlds 437 nuclear reactors. Our infrastructure rivals whole continents.
stargate says2015-09-23T18:04:56.7799852Z
@chandlerrouse Man that is funny you have no idea about us do you. One most of our debt is owed to ourselves I know how much of it is owned to China it is 14%. The rest is owned to ourselves. Okay then why did we send troops to Somalia when they do not have oil, and Pakistan and many others. We need our boys overseas to try to make sure that everyone is treated well. Now you think we are an imperialist nation, then why haven't we taken any land in all the wars we have fought? The last time we gained land was the Spanish American war. We do not use scorched earth policy , you must have no idea what this is and what it means to use it. The last time we used it was during the Civil war. Now that is funny when we have so many allies if WW3 ever broke out we would be allies with 1/4 of the world population. Also I am pretty sure NATO countries are our allies.
stargate says2015-09-23T18:08:25.3403959Z
Never mind it is 8% for the China debt.
stargate says2015-09-23T18:09:48.9254925Z

I have actually been doing so rather calmly and methodically. So if you can't reply to them, don't resort to the "don't attack me for having different views" methodology as a why of avoiding my points. No one cares about a bleeding heart.

You people could probably right a 1000 word essay on why America is great. You are so confident about that stupid countries greatness. All you points are stupid- " we haven't had a war on our soil in 200 years" That is because the USA borders Canada and Mexico, its not like they are going to invade. "we are the largest producer of food"- ...... So over a third of US people are overweight should it really be boasting about its food production? " number one in total humanitarian aid given" and you have also probably created the most refugees and killed the most civilians in other countries in the last 20 years so i would hope so. I could go threw all your stupid points all day. Some are just plain wrong like " the largest oil producer", some are completely opinion based "83 of the top 400 Universities in the world/"we lead the space industry" some just do not matter like "we dominate the film industry and social media" and how did the USA let in 45 million immigrants in 2013 if its population in 2012 was 314.1 million and its population in 2014 was 318.9 million that is a 4.8 million rise not over 45million.... Are you just making these numbers up?
58539672 says2015-09-24T19:35:40.5861828Z
@biggest_pro_going Ah, so another ignorant contender steps up to the plate. Excellent. Lets see, theta start off with the food. The US produces around 30% of the entire planets food, not just our own. We are the bread basket of the world. Several nations on the planet would starve if the US stopped growing crops. Second, the whole refugee thing does not negate the Humanitarian aid. Plus most of the refugees as of late are from Syria, a nation that the US hasn't gotten involved in yet. Third, the oil. As of 2015 the US has passed Russia in the number of barrels of oil produced a day. Most of this is due to our shale oil fields coming online after a decade of construction. Fourth, the universities. A university is considered great based off its students grades. So 83 of the top 400 highest scoring universities are in the US. Fifth Space. The US has been at the forefront of space research for over a decade. We constructed most of the ISS, landed on the moon, and are currently sending more probes to explore our galaxy than any other. We are also preparing to make a manned trip to Mars as our next project. Russia and others have mostly been doing maintenance and repair missions. Sixth, film industry and social media. By controlling these two sources, we control global culture. Do you find it odd that the world, including the former soviet bloc, have become increasingly westernized? Weird. Seventh, immigrants. If you read my posts with care you will notice I said 45 million TOTAL in 2013. This means that as of 2013, their are 45 million legal foreign born people living in the US. When you get into illegals, the number goes up again. It is not a yearly number. Try a little harder next time, son.
stargate says2015-09-24T20:19:07.1509580Z
Biggest_pro_going Lol, one our country is not that bad when looking at overweight. Now I am not saying it dosn't exist but it is not everyone. Now one we never created most of those wars, Syria wasn't us Sudan wasn't us all the other afican nations wasn't us. Now you are from Russia so I shall try to go slowly for you mostly due to your lack understanding. Now Russia has been starting more wars and tensions then the USA has or at least as much. Russia has an lack of freedom, the media is controled by the government people who speack out there die. Also the reason we haven't been involved is one no one has the balls to, and two they lack the means to. Now this is my two cents now have an nice day.

"Second, the whole refugee thing does not negate the Humanitarian aid. Plus most of the refugees as of late are from Syria, a nation that the US hasn't gotten involved in yet. Third, the oil" - u are saying the US did not get involved in Syria? It has been bombing it for a long time and is also giving arms to both sides and i never said it did not send humanitarian aid i said it did not take in 40million immigrants in 1 year like u said in your first post
58539672 says2015-09-25T13:51:09.0922130Z
@biggest_pro_going Our Bombing raids and supply drops in Syria are for PR purposes at home, not in any great desire to intervene in the conflict. Russia, China, and Iran have done more in prolonging the conflict in Syria by providing military aid to Assad, but they're still are not involved in the conflict either. The US is focusing on helping Iraq, but as far as Syria goes, we are not getting involved. That is why the White House is calling them ISIL instead of ISIS, to avoid the Syria aspect of the conflict. People got all upset when the US got involved in the last conflict, so we will see how this one places out with the US on the sideline. So far its a 4 year civil war with 200,000 casualties and the biggest refugee crisis in 70 years.
58539672 says2015-09-25T13:52:34.4870656Z
As for the immigrant part, I have already told you that that number is the TOTAL number of immigrants living in the US as of 2013. It is not how many that came here in one year.
58539672 says2015-09-25T13:54:10.6936489Z
As for the food part, you are right, I should have clarified myself. We produce 30% of the planets Corn, Wheat, and Soy.
