He has featured in Forbes top 100 intellectuals, and in my view was aptly described by other brilliant intellectuals as the greatest mind of our time.

  • His books are always interesting and insightful, mortality especially although it is sadly short. He is on par intellectually with many others but was also an amazing orator and writer which clinches it imho.

I like him plenty. I had a hard time with a binary - yes - but he is very bright.

Hitchens wasn't that smart, considering the fact he died from life-long drinking and smoking.

I think he's outclassed by Steven Hawking... Or myself.

Neither drinking or smoking is really connected to "intellect".

Some of the brights have died of drinking and smoking. HST, William Burroughs, many great writers, musicians etc.

Actually addictive behaviors ARE attached to high intellect. People with high intelligence are rather black and white; they either indulge or refuse to indulge in various behaviors including drug use, infidelity, squandering funds, etc.

I saw in an interview with him when he had cancer, about any regrets with his habits and he said he would probably do it all again
