Is Feminism a dirty word?

Posted by: cole100

It concerns itself not with humanity or equality, but with gender specific advocacy and bias

  • Yes, feminism is basically the promotion of gender hate and bias

  • No, it is just another name for equality

  • Not saying it's dirty, but I'm saying it is not about equality, but bias. We don't even know what feminists even want anymore!

  • Devils advocate, but Man is not the devil and feminism is set up conceptually as opposed to men and not inequality. Its demonstrably not a conceptual facsimile of gender equality, as male inequity is not addressed and feminism is needlessly hostile to men, irrespective of the fact that the bulk of the gender is not a default opponent to womens rights, and the bulk of the female gender is not necessarily a proponent of female advancement.

  • It isn't about equality when you consider its polies. For example, they support affirmative action for women despite the fact most college students in the US are female. Women are overrepresented. They never seem to mention male victims of rape. They also have a tendency to blame their personal failures on the "patriarchy" rather than taking responsibility. Some self-described feminists want equality, but many care only about women. It's annoying how they simply respond to critisicm by saying "that's not what feminism is" rather than considering why millions of people view modern feminism that way.

  • Name one right that women don't have anymore.

  • The teachings of the Lord tell us men are naturally superior. Feminism is against Gods word and from the Devil.

  • Feminism has gotten out of control lately. They campaign for 'equality' but fail to acknowledge that men and women have fundamental differences, and thus very different strengths and weakness.

  • The third wave of feminism has pretty much ruined the term and turned it into a hate movement.

  • Feminism is a great word! It is about finding equality between the sexes. You don't have to be a feminist to be about equality, but I think it is still very important to advocate for social, political, and economic equality! That's why I'm a feminist, but to each their own.

  • I disagree with feminism, I can even be considered anti-feminist, however, that doesn't make the word dirty. I also don't see any word as dirty, just words. I think feminism is an absolutely asinine name and people who say they are one are silly, but no, that doesn't make it dirty.

  • Femminism is defined as ": the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities" By definition, femmism is trying to achieve equality between the two sexes.

  • Unless you plan on changing its definition.

Cole100, biased much?
Berend says2015-05-10T11:23:30.3655991-05:00
@ImaRealMeanie, the vote is if it is dirty, not if it is about equality or needed anymore. Your comment completely derailed from what the goal was meant.

I'd like to add that the question and the things to vote really do not mix. If it is about equality and all, I am against, if this is about it being a dirty word, I am against. It's really a misleading title.

Not really decided here. Working it out as i go along

Is feminism not just another word for sexism?
BblackkBbirdd says2015-05-10T12:47:00.5784261-05:00
No "Sexism: prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex." "Feminism: the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes."

The original intent of feminism might have been for gender equality. Nowadays however, feminists are just man-haters that complain about women being so "oppressed."

@triangle: What do you mean that nowadays femminists are man-haters? You are saying that in general, femminists are man haters, when femminism is a global movement. In most countries, women have less rights than men. To say that the majority of femmists are men haters is comitting the over generalization fallacy.

Triange: could I see a statistic showing that all feminists are man haters.
dmussi12 says2015-05-10T17:14:30.8861868-05:00
I'm a man, I'm a feminist. I don't hate myself. No need for a statistic now.

As men are superior and had to have a rib taken out of us to create females feminism is Satanic and against God!

For all that say "nowadays" - What you say next is just about the exact same thing people were saying before. You know. When feminism was needed, right?
PetersSmith says2015-05-11T12:35:04.9668554-05:00
I don't think I've ever used the word "feminism" in bed before as a "dirty word".

That's because you're a virgin. Everyone knows that all lesbians are feminists who get turned on by the thought of stripping men of their rights.
