  • While I 100% believe that gender is a spectrum, I do not think society should be forced to learn new pronouns they way they learn "he" and "she"; however, society should be encouraged to educate themselves and to keep open minds.

  • Scientifically speaking, The brain reacts differently to different chemicals according to your gender. What we find is that people with gender fluid brains react differently than any other gender. And twin studies also support this. So there's no real reason not to "believe" in this.

  • This is a non-issue. Are we faced with this pronoun dilemma in our daily lives? Remembering them isn't required.

  • Science is the foundation of progress science also says there are only two genders and so do I.

  • your gender matches your genatalia

  • Definitely agreeing with everyone else on this side. The genitalia you are born with defines your gender, not your social beliefs. You have power over items you own, but not the structure of your body at birth.

  • No, even if gender is on a spectrum, the second part of the question is harmful to society. You cannot force people to believe or conform to something, because then that creates an overly obedient society, which could be (but highly unlikely) lead to something far more authoritarian. If you've ever read A Wrinkle in Time, you'll know exactly what I am talking about. Besides, gender is not a spectrum. Gender is based on the two biological sexes, and within those sexes there are individuals. Every single person is unique, and the need to use labels in order to prove that is ridiculous. Gender is not a personality, and gender dysphoria is a serious issue.

Do you have a penis and vagina at birth? Then you have a seat in this debate. Otherwise its pretty clear cut. Nurture your libertarian leftist communist pussy shit somewhere else.

Why does it say I've voted but didn't leave my comment? Here was my comment, I voted "No" but I wish there was a third option. I believe there is a gender spectrum BUT society shouldn't have to learn and respect pronouns. Gendered pronouns are socially constructed in the first place. Some languages don't use different pronouns for males and females. If I decide that I want to give males, females, and everyone in between the pronoun "potato" then I should be free to do so, and if you choose to feel offended, that's on you for making the choice to feel offended. If you are comfortable in your identity you shouldn't require anyone else to recognize it or approve of it much less to use pronouns you've arbitrarily decided signify your gender identity when we could've just as well had different social conventions about what the word meant.

Sciguy, gender identity disorder is outdated. It now goes by gender dysphoria.

... And accurately so.

It's more so a syndrome now than anything

This very idea claims that sex and gender are not connected. No, they are not the exact same thing, but the genders are based on the two sexes. When someone feels gender dysphoria, it is a serious issue in which they have the brain of the opposite gender. So, in order to relieve them of those dysphoric feelings (for the most part) people get surgery to resemble the opposite sex. However, you cannot be on a spectrum, because by that logic, I can be whatever the hell I want to. If I label myself that, and feel in my heart and soul that I am something, then it must mean I am, right? I will not be an asshole to anyone, but I refuse to dumb myself down in order to fuel an agenda.

Sciguy, by calling it a syndrome, you're calling it a disease.

Well, it is.
reece says2017-05-05T05:40:26.1043076Z
So you're calling gender a disease?
reece says2017-05-05T05:44:42.0067076Z
Sciguy, are you a commie?

No, Reece, deluding one's self into believing there are more than two genders is an illness, a disease, and something that must be fixed. There cannot be a helicopter gender, there cannot be a radio gender, and there cannot be any gender fluidity. The fact of the matter is that gender is so closely linear to sex that two genders is and shall always be biologically sound.

Sciguy, I know it's hard to take a grasp of for some people. It's just that the matter of fact is spectrums occur all throughout biology

Don't combine two issues into one question, I'm sure there are people out there wo believe the spectrum thing but aren't for forcing pronoun recognition
ozu says2017-07-11T23:34:27.5334538Z
Is it a continuous or discrete spectrum? If it's the latter, I would like to know how many "bands" it has :^) As for the former: actual infinities don't exist, ought implies can, therefore there is no moral obligation to remember and recognize all possible genders and their pronouns.

Gender is not a spectrum....
