Is god moral?

Posted by: Spiffy-Gonzalez

This doesn't necessarily mean the Christian God, just God in general.

  • If God made everything what he/it finds moral is moral. Further, he/it has the right to do what he/it wants with everything and everyone he/it made. I did not include she in the pronouns because the word for a female deity is a goddess, so don't comment that.

  • Why would god give us our own freedom if he was not good?

  • If God is all-good then whatever he does is good and thus moral. if you disagree with what God calls good then go make your own universe and make your own rules.

  • To understand God is to know what is Moral

  • Ultimately, there is disorder, sin, disease, chaos etc. in the world today because of our fallen nature and our obstinacy in rebelling against God's perfect plan.

  • God CREATED us, even if we were to say he was immoral, that would be a HUGE sin. and he LITERALLY sacrificed his son to have all of us come to heaven (this is the christian god but still)

  • he doesnt exist

  • If it exists.

  • even if he/it were real I would never serve him/it

  • I'm sure I'd go to Hell if I drowned the entire world's population because a few people are mean. Not sure why he gets away with it. Good thing he doesn't exist.

  • Creating a conscious being that would end up being tortured for eternity, whether it chose or not, pales all the finite wrongs man has done to one another COMBINED. And this god has supposedly done it billions of times over?

  • God created evil. God created disease. God is an asshole. God is not real.

  • He killed a ton of people first of all. He makes and allowed all sorts of bad things to happen and kills children and innocents. If there is a god, he's one messed up dude.

  • Who ever believes in a god does not look at the Bible as a historical account of the Jews. These are stories passed on by other civilizations, when people were not educated to explain the problems and wars of their day. The Bible and god are useless now. We need to teach people real moral values and how to achieve peace among all of us.

  • Read the Bible. God kills more people and causes more suffering than anyone else in that damn story book.

  • its self evident that god is not morally perfect especially not the Hebrew god, he tortures and kills constantly though out the mythos and even without acknowledging that, he is still a bloody prick that just messes with people because he can. what kinda gent does the shit he pulls on some poor sap who was nice to his little messager boys. right so a king sends a mail man to a place and everyone tried to kill/rap him and this dude saves em, so in return you spare this one dude and is family and obliterate the rest of his town, but his wife looks back at the town as it burns to ash, so you brutally kill her in cold blood. then right force his daughters to drug and rape him. this may be an appeal to emotion but there is no why this is moral, man or god that's fucked yeah?

  • In the old testament god killed the entire population because man had become wicked. he lost faith in his own creation. this is immoral and truly evil

  • He gets to play by a different set of rules.

  • The world is filled with evil, there is no end to examples of it. Whatever God created this world created much evil. Looking at the state of the world with all the natural disasters diseases and endless amounts of horrible things we do to each other. The only conclusion I can come to is that God is either not all good or he is not all powerful. If any God is watching all these horrible things that he created force his other creations to suffer, and does nothing to stop it when he, presumably, has the power to stop it then that God is not a moral God. This is doubly true if God is the one described in the Bible. In that case God has done numerous evils to his own creation and allowed much evil to be done to his creation. If a father watches his child drown another of his children and does nothing, then that is not a good father. If a father sends his child to a place of endless and eternal suffering then he is an evil father. Especially if the child's only sin was not properly worshiping his father. If God can not live up to the morals of his own creation, then how can we possibly call him good? Because he said so? I need more of a reason then that.

  • God does not exist, This we know. However the storys written about her are harmful to the human race. So the sooner we move on and forget all about these pathetic people and their silly story's the better.

I think this is a false dichotomy. God could simply be amoral, as opposed to immoral. That said, if a god does exist, it would necessarily have to be either moral or amoral, and probably the former.

Mister_man, God gets away with it becuse: 1. He is all-knowing and thus knows exactly what will become of it. 2. He is all-powerful and not controlled by any human thinking, rules, or science 3. He can do whatever he wants with his creation. And are you taking the whole burden of proof to say that there is no chance that God exists? Because even if there is one chance that he exists then you are wrong.

@Jaguar_King - You're right, if morals are based 100% on God's opinion of what they should be, then God is technically moral. However in my eyes, morality is subjective and God does not live up to the majority of the worlds' moral standards. But if we're talking about morality based on God's opinion of morality, then obviously he is moral, as he creates what constitutes morality. And I'd like to say there's absolutely no way something such as God can exist, but because we don't know every single thing there is to know about existence itself, I can't logically allow myself to take that stance, so I'd say he most likely doesn't exist,

Mister_man & bsh7000, For God to be God, He is then creator of all things, man was made to worship God. Thus God defines what is acceptable and what is not, making him not a amoral deity. He has clearly defined what is and is not moral. However, there's a thing called freewill. That is how we are not merely robots, and how you draw your conclusions. Morality is not subjective...You make it subjective. It is not God's opinion...It is God's Law. How do you conclude that the world is the moral standard for God? Now you are making the created to be the Creator. God is not the head of a democracy. Your conclusions are a byproduct of existentialism.

Jtlove - Good point. I've changed my stance because of you guys, I still don't think God exists to begin with, but assuming he does, he would be a moral God considering he created morality.

Considering the containments of his "Holy book" and the narure of the world we live in, I can say that is not as morally good as his followers claimants

How is it that God creating morality automatically gives him absolute control over morality? If God exists then he also created humanity, yet he does not have absolute control over every human. If we have free will then we have the ability to form our own opinions on what is and is not moral, why God should get a free pass on this judgment I do not know.
