  • The hubris it must take to yank a soul out of non existence, into this, meat. And to force a life into this thresher. My daughter, she spared me the sin of being a father.

  • It's making a choice for someone else to exist and throwing them into circumstances that they have no control of being born into. By procreating you condemn a human to pain, disease, and death at the least. There is no necessity for our species to exist, especially given the consequences, and it is no one's obligation to fulfil their biological drives.

  • Why would it be? Is it wrong that you exist? Should you have never been born?

  • We evolved to stay alive as a species. Now, I'm not exactly a genius, but apparently having kids makes sure that the species continues.

  • No, but good parenting is required. We don't need more degenerates like "yes" people.

It depends on intent and capacity. To have children for the sake of fulfilling your own needs is clearly an act of abomination. I have always found it sickening that many parents are desperate to live vicariously through their childrens' accomplishments because they themselves are failures and have no accomplishments and aspirations of their own. My life was rich before I had children and is still just as rich independent of them. I am fortunate (and perhaps an anomaly) to be able to pursue my dreams fully even with children in the picture. My children needn't accomplish anything for my sake as I already feel quite satisfied with my own ongoing achievements. As such, having children came from a place of capacity and personal contentment rather than insecurity, need and desire. Deep reflection should occur before any couple chooses to have children. From my personal experience with friends and family, very little "reflection" is often involved unfortunately.

You again Rust_Cohle? When I read the question, I thought it likely you had made it. I understand because I read a comment once telling of your daughters untimely demise, but please stop making these stupid polls. I am sorry for your loss, but you have to let others live their lives and if possible, join them.

Given how long it’s taken me to reconcile my nature, I can’t figure I’d forego it on your account, Donderpants.

@Donderpants - I disagree with your opinion that this question is "stupid". As a father of two, I believe this is a question that parents should ask themselves before having children.

Hey Donderpants, you realize that he's a troll right? He named his account after a TV character.

This question is stupid. Maybe if it were worded differently it wouldn't be so bad.

People only have children because that is what is expected of them and they are afraid of growing old alone. There is no lack of humans in this world, there are too many of us and we are hurting the world around us. It is better that humans get instinct so we will stop damaging the earth and each other.

@blackwhite But I want MY genes to spread. Who cares about the other guy?
