  • To some extant

  • Just because it's not the majority of cops being corrupt, doesn't mean it's not an issue.

  • Every other day now we hear a story of a cop firing 8 times at someone for no reason. Lots of stories get picked up by the media due to race elements, but there are tons of more stories of police brutality that dont involve race that take place and go unnoticed.

  • There are much bigger problems but still even if it's uncommon compared to the other problems it still should be addressed.

  • Big issue, any enforcement of an unjust law is considered brutality in my opinion

  • There have been dirty cops. But the majority of police do protect and serve loyally. Its the thugs that have the delusions of grandeur that cause the problems, thinking they are way too high and mighty for any police officer. They think they can do whatever they dang well please. Because its their neighborhood right???

  • Definitely not. Police brutality is actually quite rare, but seems like an epidemic because the media blows up every time something happens. If you look up the statistics and do the math, you'll find that 1 in 22,000 police officers will be killed by a civilian and 1 in 291,000 civilians will be killed by a police officer. Don't listen to the media.

  • They are just doing their jobs.

  • Although they are appearing more often in the media, statistically they are very, very rare. Plus a lot of the instances that I hear about could have been avoided if people stopped resisting arrest. I don't care if the cop is a racist @sshole, never resist arrest.

Varrack, police brutality is not "rare". Statistics are not an accurate representation of all the cases that actually occur, you are aware of this right? This doesn't only include killings, but violent, aggressive behavior, verbal assaults, unnecessary restrictions etc.. Most of them go unreported, or covered up by the police departments. The ones that actually get attention are the ones where they weren't able to cover it up. I assume most cops aren't terrible people, but many of them are and they become cops for that very reason.

Not to mention, there are significantly less cops than there are civilians.

I'm not voting as I'm not American, but I agree with 58539672. Some of the beatings during last years' protests in Hong Kong could have been avoided if people did not resist arrest.

He already stated that he wasn't American.
