  • The actual conservative position is close Gusntanamo and give prisoners Constitutional rights. That would've been the position of Robert Taft (Mr. Republican). These modern conservatives were scared away from their real values by 9/11.

  • No. I dont think this is a political issue. More of a moral issue.

  • That depends on what you mean. If you're referring to only the EXTREMIST conservatives, then yes. However, if you're referring to ALL conservatives in general, then no.

  • Shouldn't be. Conservatism should mean a respect for individual rights. Don't know why no one's noticing the shift to utilitarianism right now...

  • Torturing people who decide to be open-minded is certainly an islamic position though.

So many of the things us "peace-nicks" were talking about at the start of these wars has come to pass. The normalizing of torture just may be the worst legacy of this mess.

Well put Texas14.

@Texas14 -- What? LOL

If there is solid evidence that someone has information about an imminent threat on lives of US citizens, why would someone be against doing whatever is necessary to extract that information?
TBR says2015-08-06T18:19:40.5628572Z
Because Teaparty1, America is about more. We have to stand for something.
DavidMGold says2015-08-06T20:30:32.8575921Z
TBR, your position is a bit ridiculous when you look back upon America's approach to war during WWII.
TBR says2015-08-06T20:33:51.6652665Z
DavidMGold - Hardly. We never sanctioned torture before.
Teaparty1 says2015-08-07T01:11:14.5525841Z
Yes America is about much. We give everybody a trial and even hire a state attorney for them if the can't afford their own. We stand for justice. But we also stand for innocent American lives. So saying that America is about more as a reason not to attempt saving lives by torturing a known terrorist, that doesn't make sense to me.

@BriantheLiberal I'm not Pro death penalty because I bought into the conservative agenda. Studies show it deters crime, thats why.
briantheliberal says2015-08-07T02:30:11.8193510Z
Tajshar2k, pretty sure I didn't say anything about the "conservative agenda" (whatever that is). I simply acknowledged that being pro-Death penalty is a conservative position, because it is.
tajshar2k says2015-08-07T02:37:02.2579820Z
I do not think it should be considered one however. There are studies that show it reduces crime, so there is logic for being Pro-Death Penalty.
briantheliberal says2015-08-07T02:39:14.9056323Z
Even so, it's still considered conservative position, logical or not. Conservatives can hold logical positions, whatever they may be. It's just that most conservative don't, in my opinion.
briantheliberal says2015-08-07T02:39:48.8202497Z
Or should I say, in my experience.
tajshar2k says2015-08-07T02:39:54.5922867Z
That's true, most support it because the Bible says so.
The_American_Sniper says2015-08-07T02:49:30.2047765Z
The Libertarian stance is Anti-Torture, Anti-Death Penalty. Basically anything with government control as much as possible.
