TBR, belief in something higher than ourselves is very much logical.
Geauxpelican5, it's not logical to believe in anything which has no proof, theoretical or otherwise.
You can't prove the big bang, evolution, or anything
Saying no religion is logical is a little silly because some religions have changed to where they do try to use logic, and due to lack of scientific understanding they try to explain things with the gods, resulting in somewhat logical conclusions.
Geauxpelican5, but the Big Bang, Evolution, and any other accepted science makes sense theoretically, something that cannot be said for religion.
Do I make sense? No. Am I real? Maybe...

MY NEXT POLL WILL BE: DID COMMUNISM DOG DESERVE TO HAVE HER VOTING RIGHTS BANNED FROM HER? (Yes, yes I did :3)
Scientology is a satire for the institution of religion. How do you not get that? It was supposed to be a joke all along ...
Freedombeforeequality, Scientologists have been known to harass members who leave the church. I believe that you may have gotten the religion mixed up with Pastafarianism. However I could be mistaken about the whole thing.
Im not seeing the difference here.
People harassing people about their beliefs and how they differ. It happens everywhere ... In and out of religion. Absolutely nothing strange or illogical about that.
Scientology is where people believe an alien overlord (that looked like a human) froze other aliens (that also looked like humans) and threw their frozen bodies in a volcano on Earth trillions of years before today (even though it is proven the world is about 4.6 billion years old) on a plane which L. Ron Hubbard said was like a plane in the 50s. Obviously, the 50s planes could NOT fly into space. Then the spirits, known as thatans, of those dead aliens were invested in early humans. The alien overlord commanded that all the humans were taken to some sort of movie theater to be brainwashed. And... That's scientology. :D
On a documentary, I heard that scientologists pressured members of the church to give them money. People were forced to give thousands of dollars. Additionally, members who left the church were harassed and stalked. In the documentary, scientologists made and paid for websites and movies on lies about those people. Some scientologists threatened people and some actually kidnapped people. Some members of the church were forced to deny their friends and FAMILY because they did not believe in scientology. Finally, I would like to add that the church does not share the story of origin because it sounds ridiculous. They say that it is a religion to "facing one's inner demons," aka, the thatans I talked about.
Sounds about right. Good info CommunistDog. Pressuring for money and denouncing immoral peoples is what most all churches are guilty of. That "facing inner demons" is the semi decent belief I was referring to. Their method to do that though (lie detector tests/ stress tests etc.) are pretty ridiculous though.
Yes but even on their website, scientologists hesitate to publically show the origin story believed by scientologists. It takes years as a member of the church to find this out.
When you hear that aliens drove traditional airline jets from the 60s through space, one might have doubts towards that story.
Great metaphor about your views on scientology, Cludwig.
I don't see how it could take years to learn this ... I mean you know it, and youre not even part of the church.
By years, I mean the high members of the church do not reveal the story of our origin until you are in the church for a long time. The reason I knew this is because I watched a documentary and researched it.
That knowledge being out though hasn't caused as much of a stir in the religion though, like you'd think it would. I mean, people make claims about Christianity like it being fake and such ... They stay strong because there is enough doubt there. Scientology straight up has no doubt that it's based on pure fiction, and they still have followers. Maybe there is something more to it than just how it started out. The tenants you follow and the life it helps you live might be more important to people the the couple lies it was all based on. I guess it just matters if it helps you to be happy at the end of the day. Religion does give many a sense of security ... Relieves the stress of death and stuff. Relieves questions about fate. That stuff causes alot of stress for people you know. Stress they'd sometimes be better without.
Scientologists believe stress comes from alien spirits invested in humans, called Thatans. ._.
Who cares what mythical form it takes ... If theyre getting rid of it, good on em.
"Scientology is a religion that offers a precise path leading to a complete and certain understanding of one’s true spiritual nature and one’s relationship to self, family, groups, Mankind, all life forms, the material universe, the spiritual universe and the Supreme Being." - Scientology.Org Not ONCE does the official website mention the true story of scientology. I feel this is entirely a scam to get money. Scientology has an estimated 3.6 billion dollars worth of property.
Check this out. If Christianity upheld the ideas behind the 10 commandments, but never told the people the true origins of where they came from (scribed on tablets by god), people would still be inclined to follow Christianity, just based on the beliefs. It's been designed in such a way that it relates easily to the masses. The ideas have merit to them, even without the Jesus, Mary, and Joseph of it all. Everything else just helps uphold those ideas. Sacrifice. Their prophet sacrifices for you in such a way that he gives a gift you can't refuse without looking like a total a hole for not showing appreciation. Hence all the sense of humility and service backed ideas. They all have merit to them.
But seriously... The scientologists believed that 1950s or 60s jet replicas, or rather, the exact same technology, was made by aliens who flew them THROUGH SPACE. Even today's commercial airliners couldn't do that.
I know about his Sci-Fi book. There is alot of outside ideas clung to that foundation though, some of which are righteous. If I told you that I wanted to start a religion featuring George Carlin's standup about sun worshiping, it would have been backed by a comedian's stand up routine. Doing some of the things he spoke about in his satire would be completely logical though. If you haven't heard it you should listen to it. I think he might have been dead before you were old enough to even know who he was ... He's a funny guy though.
