As a Dutch outsider, is there a true alternative for the Conservative Party, or are Labour and Lib Dem the only 'real' competitors? I remember Gordon Brown's cabinet, not popular at all among the Brits, I believe? Regional parties and things like UKIP of BNP not included. No need for a multiparty system with a proportional representation yet, like us on the other side of the North Sea?
@Jero: Labour is the only real alternative. Gordan Brown's cabinet wasn't, but Blair was pretty popular up until Iraq, from which it started to go downhill. UKIP and the BNP are a bit too extreme, its no the secret the BNP are racists.
But isn't it kind of problematic that those two parties just take turns, with or without those Liberal Democrats? And the British electorate seems to accept it?
@Jero: Sorry I can't really go into much detail right now. Yes it is, just like how the Democrats and Republicans take turns in the USA. People are tired of the Conservatives and Labour, yet still vote for them. But the most immediate alternative is UKIP, and I would NEVER want them in power.
