  • Anyone who votes otherwise is a commie.

  • Nothing like a Marine with his M16.

  • the most dangerous weapon in the world is a motivated marine and his rifle!

  • Manufacturer: Kalashnikov Concern Colt Design year: 1947 1957 Weight: 4.78 kg (10.5 lb) 3.6 kg (7.9 lb) Overall length: 87.0 cm (34.3 in) 99.0 cm (39.0 in) Barrel length : 40.6 cm (16.0 in) 50.8 cm (20.0 in) Height: 26.7 cm (10.5 in) 26.7 cm (10.5 in) Sight radius 37.8 cm (14.9 in) 50.0 cm (19.7 in) Cartridge 7.62×39mm 5.56×45mm Bullet weight: 122 gr (7.9 g) 55 gr (3.6 g) Velocity: 2,330 fps (710 m/s) 3,250 fps (990 m/s) Energy: 1,469 ft.lbs (1,991 J) 1,302 ft.lbs (1,764 J) Effective range: 380 yd (350 m) 500 yd (460 m) Penetration: ≈29 in (74 cm) ≈14 in (36 cm) Rate of fire: 600 rounds/min 700–950 rounds/min Capacity: 30 rounds 30 rounds Numbers made: ≈100 million ≈8 million Taking all of these statistics into account, I would say the superior is the M16. But when It really comes down to it, its an issue of accuracy vs reliability.

  • In the Lebanese civil war, left wing parties had ak47 and right wing parties had m16. After several winning strikes of the left wing, the right wing sold its m16 rifles and bought ak47.

  • I was in the army special ops, and I've fired thousands of rounds through the m16. I choose the ak47 because I can shoot it about as accurate as the m16 without the jamming and misfires. The m16 has to constantly be kept very clean and then you still risk jams. if its dirty then its quite unreliable. I do like the m16 trigger more. but i prefer the reliability of the ak47, the extra firepower, and i like how it doesn't have the muzzle break. If you don't have ear plugs in and you whip it up and fire, the m16 will really hurt your ears, but the ak the sound is more directed away from you. And as for long range firing, Their both tactical rifles. not snipers. The increased accuracy at long range of the m16 doesn't mean much. when are you ever going to have to fire it at long distance? most conflicts are close to mid range. And if theres a sniper you wouldnt want to use either of these rifles. And if need be a scope can easily be thrown on the ak with the quick side mount.

  • Firstly, one of the comments for the M16 mentions a marine. The US standard issue rifle is the M4. You are more likely to see an M16 in the English SAS. Also, the AK-47 is infinitely more reliable, reportedly being able to be dragged through swamp water and working. Also you can't argue with the first shot headshot. If you have worse accuracy, burst fire with the M4A4 is better, but the common choice for people on competitive servers is the AK.

  • @PreferNotToBeLabeled Then I must be a commie. Or a reasonable person who would like to stay alive in a war.

  • I would rather keep firing reliably rather than have the gun jam up due to poor weather conditions.

While both of these weapons have been in service for more than half a century, it is my opinion that the amazing accuracy, bullet velocity and the first major use of the now very common .223 calibre round makes this assault rifle the most important development since the "Lewis Gun".

This contiunes to make no sense. As someone who knows weapons and history very well, these weapons have different uses. The M16 was used for longer range combat against lightly armored hostile. The AK-47 was made to fight against soldiers at close ranger who were armored to a medium capacity (Body armor when I mean armored). Therefore, this poll is quite void.

An AK would serve you well especially in a very environmentally-unfriendly war, or through the use of guerilla tactics. Plus they're incredibly cheap and easy to make- pretty evident when you look at how many are being distributed around out there.
