You gotta draw a line in the sand ... Next year all this years games become old. The video game industry is very very fast paced.
I wish the Movie industry and Video Game industry would swap their modes of innovation with eachother, where Video games are largely rebooted storylines of the past and Movies were increasingly independent and fresh.
I think both are pretty similar- there are one or two unique games, and one or two unique movies, but it's almost entirely been done before.
Mass Effect I guess could be considered new
I think any love I have for old games is superficial and based on my old memories of them. Games today are undeniably deeper in gameplay and content ... most lasting 10's sometimes even 100's of hours more in time people log playing them ... and they might have only existed a fraction of the time an old one has. I think that says something about a games quality and replay value.
I personally prefer older games in general, true the graphics aren't as good but the Storylines and Gameplay were generally better when compared to newer games, e.g. Call of Duty, Five Nights at Freddys, Fifa, etc. Not that I'm saying all new games are bad. I also love new games, e.g. Amnesia, Tomb Raider, Minecraft, etc.
Get old games and texture mods if you want fancy graphics.
Classics will always be in my heart. Just because it is old doesn't mean the story isn't great, the gameplay isn't fun, or anything.
Even though I was born too late to have nostalgia about what's considered today to be old games, I still find old games are often higher quality than modern games. For instance, I loved the Wii, partially for a few good games on the Wii, but largely because it had backwards compatibility to the gamecube which has several of my favourite games of all time.
