Feed back would be great.
I'm not entirely aware of anything that has been done. So....
So on balance you think that "his doing nothing" is better than him doing something to worsen the status quo?
What I am saying is I knew of no presidential activity before, I know of virtually none now.
What, if anything, has been done that you dislike?
Has the term "President" been replaced by "Dark Lord" yet?
Depends on the President. I generally tend to disapprove of a DDO president after there first term. The only exceptions have been Airmax1227 and TUF.
Wait, so TBR, you didn't know we had a President?
@lannan13 - Not for some time after joining. I have seen no real activity. There was a post (or two?) from before the most current election, and... Well one update on the "fixes" for the site since? No, I have seen very little activity, and can't see any real difference.
My default is, bsh1 is doing fine. There are no negative effects that I can see.
There's been few activity from Presidents, but it all depends on Juggle for "Updates" mainly the President can run on DDO policy and site issues that he can control.
@lannan13 - They can communicate with the user base. I would guess that is the most power they could hope for.
That's all they can really do. Most is just escentially setting up things, but still what we can do. The President is "suppose" to be a link between DDO and Juggle, but when Juggle doesn't listen it's hard to be a link.
Do you think bsh1 was born in US, or is he from Kenya?
@triangle bsh1 HUSSEIN Obama? I think that's a major clue.
He'll raise the DDO debt more than any other president.
Isn't it a coincidence his middle name is HUSSEIN. You know who also has HUSSEIN as a middle name? Saddam HUSSEIN Obama
I have made this pitch several time, and understand the reasons why airmax disagrees, but it would be a good place for a president to communicate on the problem (both perceived and real) to the user base. I believe the general ennui people have towards Juggle could be reversed with better communications.
@UtherPenguin Do you think that bsh1 is secretly airmax1227 in disguise?
They were talking at the same time on a hangout, so no...
That's what they want you to think...
I would guess that people have better things to do than fake multi people on a conference call.
@triangle We're all Airmax in disguise.
So far I have no complaints, but he left some promises, such as upgrading the features on the site (team debates, big issues, etc..) Hopefully he will live up to those promises.
@tajshar2k - Well the problem is not that he has not done these, the problem would be that he has run into issues getting these things done, right? So, with a little more communication you would be forgiving, right?
What do you mean by more communication?
Well, I will not run through the discussion again, as I said, I had the conversation with airmax and respect his position on the subject, but the basic point is, if you communicate where you are in discussions with site developers, the perception of 'nothing gets done' would change. There is a lot that happens on any site, but to the casual user it can seem like nothing happens. If the discussions are hitting technical or budget problems between ddo presidents, and site owners, if you knew that you might understand that it is not inactivity. But legit problems.
So, wouldn't it be wise to leave the Developing in the hands of some experienced DDO user who is a programmer?
Let me put it this way. The real costs of work on the site may be ~80$\hr. The actual time required to of some of the things suggested may be 40-100 hours. That may not be trivial to the site owners, and more importantly, may be taxing their current schedule. If the answer back was, adding this 'feature' would cost 10k, and the sites review does not merit that, well that is a real explanation. Site growth may not merit their spending that time and money.
To your last comment. NO! That is a terrible idea. I can elaborate, but I am on my tablet right now, and cant type it all out using a onscreen keyboard.
Oh I see.
Lets discuss the 'volunteer' programming suggesting. Like I said, it is large, but just to give you a couple ideas why that is a terrible idea. Code is not a 'this is right, that is wrong' sort of thing... Well, put another way, each programmer will work a problem a different way. So, say you get one guy who 'donates' 6 months worth of PT effort to the site. He then goes off. Well, that is a bulk of code that is most likly underdocumented, and becomes a hassle for those that MUST maintain it.
Another is, standards and architecture. A 'volunteer' working outside the direct guidance of the architect may veer off in a fundamentally 'wrong' direction form the path the guy who is ultimately responsible wants. Lets say, just as a terrible example, a guy starts tossing in PHP code on a site that is .Net. Or is working around the stored procedures of the DBMS. That could cause huge problems. I would rather delay projects that I want rather than open my systems to free help.
Just to throw it out there, I haven't noticed a single change in this site (other than the ability to say shit and junk) since I've started here about a year ago. I voted for Mikal and I haven't even seen him post anything anywhere (other than the forums, which I don't take part in very often) since he was elected. So either I'm just not very observant or nothing has happened and there's no point to having a president or other forms of council other than popularity.
@Mister_Man - Yup. There is value in that too, but... Well, point is if president is "cool kid in the forums" then call it that.
Really havent noticed any difference.
Hail the Dark Lord
One one hand. 1.Baby Plastic surgey is FAR from universal 2.TERRIBLE London stull isn't conquered. 3.AUSTRALIA still stans in the way of our memorual cdntuar! 4.SQURIELS continuebto secretly mock us, And I KNOW they do don't question it! On the other hand He managed to Get an update Where juggle beats me up, so i guess i'm netural. If only things fet dine here faster.
I'd like to see him give more ELO to the low ELO people though. Maybe if we give them ELO it will solve their problems or make life a little bit easier for them. Maybe they'll be good debaters if we all just gave them a little bit of our own ELO. As a liberal he should know that giving people something they lack, fixes the reason they lack it..
I have no reason to be against it.
He's had pretty good "user outreach[?]" programs, as you can see in the Presidential updates.
Bsh1care will damn us all!
Don't know what he's done so far, but I love being a cynic.
