@triangle.128k 3000 years ago. And unlike the Babylonians, Romans and Egyptians, the Muslims were very tolerant to the Jews in that period. The first place Jews fled to after the reconquista was Ottoman territory
When the Zionists decided to create a jewish state in the middle east, several wealthy jews bought plots of land from the palestinians and then evicting the people who lived on that (now their) land. Israel didn't steal anything, they bought it fairly. Israel actually does OWN the land.
On the other hand in the surrounding countries, you would be brutally oppressed if you're not middle eastern and Muslim. Lebanon is probably one of the few exceptions (seeing that Lebanon isn't a theocracy.)
@triangle Racism is not that bad of an issue in the Middle East. Also, very few Middle Eastern countries are actually theocratic (The only ones that could be called legitmate theocracies would be Saudi, Iran, UAE and maybe Qatar)
"And why is it that minority religions can live in peace in Israel?"
You mean like being "peacefully" spat in the face if you are christian? I really can't blame those who fight the people spitting in their face because of their religion.
"there's not much oppression in Israel."
I beg to defer. Please research the common oppression in Israel. Example: Beta Yisrael, also their own Israeli brothers and sisters call them "kushim" (used as a derogatory name) and oppressed acts towards them:
Palestinian Christians attacks and continuing hate crimes:
At the moment, the middle east would be heck to live in, with Isis and every thing going on, but at least you have a way to get out. People have no idea how bad it is in north korea, they don't have food, let alone a house or electricity, it is so bad there, i would rather live any where in the middle east then in north korea.
Despite finding itself in a geography surrounded by enemy states the country continues to prosper and make positive contributions to the world economically, scientifically, technologically and entrepreneurially. The country also keeps a check on radical Islamist organisations based in the Middle East and helps other nations in dealing with the menace of Islamic fundamentalists by sharing valuable intelligence.
