Our food

Ok are you pro- for genetically modified plants and animals serving for a big portion for our food... Or are you con- we should go back to our roots and simply to the right thing and eat REAL food.

I or someone I know or read about has been affected... Or I hate the idea of fake food. I prefer real food.

OK I am going to do this every time to help start off a debate. Now... I, myself am a firm believer in real, delicious, good for your health food. And the idea of GMO's repulse me. America whoohoo. But it's our goverment that has deep roots with the comany that sells and creates GMO's and seeds(genetically modified), that won't die from the pesticides. Now I've only recently read articles on this topic... But it's been a problem for quite some time... I think it's about time this gets more recognition. First off... These GMO's they are putting in our food cause CANCER, Alzheimer's, and tumors... I'm pretty sure that doesn't sound like something you would prefer to consume. Or if you have a family, have them consume. Now you can eat what you want, but I thing it should be known that we are known and told that other countries will not buy our crops and meat, because the bacteria they use in GMO's are illegal in MANY countries.... So why do we keep using them. We could use some extra money in trade with food.

It really depends, some GMOs are good and some can be bad.

"GMO" is too broad of a term.

@triangle.128k Actually the point of GMO's is for pesticides but they ALL have bad side effects if consumed. And @TheMarquis GMO's isn't to broad of a term, that I used in the sense of this poll is about GMO's in our food. GMO (genetically modifyied organism) is usually the plant... That we later consume. So the question is what do you believe in. Having plants and animals injected or a normal, natural food. Hope this clears things up with both of you.

I like to eat organics for a number of reasons, but your understanding of GMO is very far off the mark.

I've gone over this... But if you do not already know, Plants are being injected with bacteria from nonrelated substances... And obviously that is not natural. And they have such bad numbers that 3rd world countries that are STARVING will not use GMO plants. (and they are banned) the ones that are starving even don't want something nonnatural. It's different if the plant is a hybrid. (which is 2 different plants made to be good in a certain climate) because that is 2 PLANTS. GMO's are plants mixed with animal DNA from what I understand. BUT I will be reading more articles today on the matter. So if anything different comes up you can see

You got your definition of genetically-modified organisms wrong. Are you a diabetic? I'm wondering because I may be able to bring up a good point for how GMOs can help you.

I don't like the environmental implications of GMOs, and there are viable solutions without them anyway.

Humans have been genetically modifying food since the dawn of agriculture and it hasn't caused cancer. The fear-mongers are just trying to gain political and financial power through political wars with the food industry. Genetically modifying a crop is like dog breeding, it is the splicing of genes to form a better crop, which in many cases will prevent cancer, among other conditions such as vitamin b2 deficiency and allergic reactions and blindness. Nature may splice genes over millions of years to form a crop that fits nature's needs. But humans are the most powerful animals on Earth and so we simplified our food chain by creating agriculture. To denounce GMOs is to denounce good food. There is ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE that GMO food is bad for you. There is SUBSTANTIAL UNDENIABLE EVIDENCE that it is good for you. Pesticide resistance, insect resistance, vitamin supplement, cancer resistance, disease resistance, preservation of freshness, nutrient addition.........

I urge you to look up the bad effects of GMOs... Because there is a lot of evidence that it is bad for your health....

@liberator_of_gays I have looked up the bad effects of some GMO's, but I believe the benefits far out way the costs. GMO's allow us to rapidly increase the amount of food that we can grow on the same amount of land. And given the fact that the global population is increasing (current population is 7 billion) to the threshold that are planet can actually feed (between 9 and 10 billion. We are also projected to reach this figure by as early as 2050), the need to grow more food is becoming vital. This is not a problem that the first world will feel however (most first world nations are wealthy enough to get enough food for their populace), but the second and third world nations will see starvation as the number one cause of death. So if you don't like GMO's fine, don't eat them. But think about the rest of the people on the planet that aren't wealthy enough to guarantee a meal and how they will feel about those bad health problems when they starve to death.

To l_o_g: Grains are inherently genetically modified as they originated on farms over the past 10,000 years as a result of farmers picking the crops that did not fall to the ground and stayed on the plant.
