  • Conservatism is an ideology based on religiosity and traditionalism. It tends to do nothing more but infringe on the rights of those who simply want to be equal under the law. Progressivism = Forward, Conservatism = Backwards.

  • conservatives do not believe in the progression of morals. We don't understand everything this takes time, a long time. Conservatives are blinded by arrogance and think we are already there.

  • Governments need to be able to change to the times. Also tradition institutions tend to oppress women and minorities. Just look at the laws and societal standards from the past.

  • neither are forms of government but i get what you're saying.

  • The only way forward is progress

  • I don't think a lot of people understand the conservative side of this. Conservatives believe in progression, but just not in the same kind as progressives. Establishing economic freedom, limiting government, creating free markets, upholding traditional values, and maintaining a strong national defnese are all progressive in their own ways. To say that conservatives detest change is a straw man of the ideology, because there *is* a lot of change that conservatives want: removing affirmative action, giving gun rights to the law-abiding population, and reducing abortion clinics, as well as the things I mentioned above. Technology (as given in the left picture) has nothing to do with either side. If you really want to know what conservatives think, I suggest you ask them instead of making polls trying to assert bogus things.

  • Depends on what you want from a government. I find conservative ones to be more stable than progressive ones for instance. On the other hand progressive ones are more flexible. Its really up to what the person finds important.

  • While progressives usually take credit for the work of others, conservatism is predicated on responsibility, discipline, and a moral compass. Whether it be irresponsible tax and spend policies, or holding the country hostage to the absurd narratives of the "social justice" league, progressivism best represent the demographic of children: Naive, entitled, with the spontaneous temper tantrum mixed in for "balance." Conservatism, however, has endured the left's bully tactics. Their principles are timeless, as the success of such ways allow them to be. It's a belief that everyone holds value in their own personal way, while upholding accountability.

Technically most American conservatives were progressives at one point in their life. Most of them oppose slavery and support civil rights. Thats progressivism.

It depends.

Neither are forms of government.
reece says2015-06-29T11:32:10.8537913-05:00
@PetersSmith Depending on the prospective. Do you still know what i meant?

Biased poll

What now?
triangle.128k says2015-06-29T11:46:51.6797578-05:00
Isn't it obvious? The progressive side shows a businessman holding holographic images of computers and the Internet or whatever. The conservative side shows someone holding up a cutout of a family.
reece says2015-06-29T11:50:52.6251937-05:00
@triangle.128k which represents family values...
reece says2015-06-29T11:53:37.3335624-05:00
It's better than if the cut out had two men/women in it, right?
TBR says2015-06-29T13:41:23.0220873-05:00
This time it is not biased triangle.128k.
TBR says2015-06-29T13:42:57.5100592-05:00
@tajshar2k - No, that does not work. First, there are no living republicans that fought slavery. Second, conservatives, regardless if they were called Democrats or Republicans, were the people fighting civil rights.
Varrack says2015-06-29T14:03:15.2881227-05:00
Conservatives are progressives. They just believe in a different type of progression than leftists do. I explained in my vote comment.
reece says2015-06-29T14:05:52.6465390-05:00
@Varrack their not conservative if their pro innovation/change.
TBR says2015-06-29T14:10:04.0601775-05:00
@Varrack - most of what you describe is regressive. I agree that generally "technology" has no political bent, but I could make the anti-science argument. Most of the science denying (hating) people come from the far-right.
Varrack says2015-06-29T14:11:57.8187690-05:00
@reece upholding traditional values is its own kind of progressivism, as well as are other policies. They're just not the same type of progressivism as what the media believes.
reece says2015-06-29T14:18:43.0223634-05:00
@Varrack The value of intolerance is a conservative thing... Being intolerant of who your son/doughtier loves.
reece says2015-06-29T14:21:35.7176844-05:00
Family values is a neutral thing until conservatives mess around with it.
mystery_man43 says2015-06-29T14:26:13.4498253-05:00
@triangle.128k How is this a biased poll? Family values is a conservative thing.
reece says2015-06-29T14:30:54.7834874-05:00
Traditions suck. Morality evolves
Varrack says2015-06-29T14:38:29.5655811-05:00
@reece so basically you disregard everything I say and then straw man conservatism with some ridiculous belief. Maybe if you actually researched it a bit more you'd learn a thing of two.
reece says2015-06-29T14:57:31.3203375-05:00
@Varrack Conservatism opposes change and progress is due to change. Isn't it obvious? Maybe you should look it up.
reece says2015-06-29T15:00:28.9609536-05:00
Like what IndependentTruth said...
TBR says2015-06-29T15:11:42.5912060-05:00
@Varrack - Look at what you said. That is the very opposite of 'progressive'.
TBR says2015-06-29T15:13:25.9385943-05:00
It MAY not be a bad thing, I disagree with it, but pushing for "traditional" means the opposite of progressive.
Varrack says2015-06-29T15:19:02.7755727-05:00
Pushing for traditional values when they are not present is pushing for change, which is progressivism. They big myth here is that conservatives want to do nothing at all. Pushing for any change, whether it is change that once existed, is still change. It's easy logic. Everyone is progressive in some way.
reece says2015-06-29T15:20:53.7249063-05:00
@Varrack Okay now what if nobody was progressive in anyway?
IndependentTruth says2015-06-29T15:25:51.4254312-05:00
@Varrack Pushing for the country to go back to traditional values isn't progressivism, it's reactionism
TBR says2015-06-29T15:27:55.0734090-05:00
Its not worth bickering over too much, but if you spend a lot of time saying things like "Marriage should be as it always has been" you can't clam being "progressive". If you say "What the founding fathers said can never be modified", you cant say you are "progressive" .
TheOpinionist says2015-06-29T15:29:12.4216054-05:00
It depends on what you define "progress" as. If any change is progress, then anyone unhappy with the current political climate is a "progressive."
reece says2015-06-29T15:30:32.3556336-05:00
I think conservative ideologies are a evolutionary hindrance. The fear of the unknown.
Varrack says2015-06-29T15:30:57.0197079-05:00
No, but if I say things like "affirmative action should be Abolished in all colleges", that's progressivism. That's change. If I said "the education system should be privatized", that's change. If I said "all gun regulation laws should be removed", that's change. That's progressivism.
TheOpinionist says2015-06-29T15:31:56.8000575-05:00
The thing is, if we lived in a society with universal healthcare, no religious freedom, government regulated trade, etc. Conservatives would be considered progressives because they'd want to change the current political climate.
TheOpinionist says2015-06-29T15:32:10.1114239-05:00
The name depends on the context
TBR says2015-06-29T17:09:06.5385657-05:00
@Varrack - Asking to change something BACK to the old status quo is not progressive.
reece says2015-06-29T18:41:59.3943621-05:00
We're talking within the context of innovation.
58539672 says2015-06-29T19:07:50.9874991-05:00
I thought we were talking within the context of governance.
