  • There's no competition in home schooling. In home schooling, one isn't exposed to different people and they lack developing social skills. If people really want to talk about public schooling being bad to where homeschooling is necessary, wouldn't it be a much better idea to just improve public schooling?

  • Home schools are not benefit for children to be presented as educated adults in future. In public schools you see where you are compared to public and it makes easier to evaluate many things and learn many from variety of people.

  • Interacting with other people is one of the most important parts of school. You won't get anywhere in life if you're unable to interact socially with others in a respectable manner.

  • I think public school because at a public school you get to meet alot of cool people and make more friends. If your home schooled you don't really get to do much except sit at home on your computer.

  • I am a public school teacher!

  • I was homeschooled from start to finish. I really truly began to learn when I was able to go to college. I was behind, but I applied myself to catch up and am now working towards my 2nd Bachelors and Masters/PhD. I would never recommend homeschooling.

  • There is just simply not the same human interaction in a homeschooling environment as there is in a public schooling environment.

  • Its just more convenient and a little bit safer. TBH I take advantage of PS

  • There are a lot of myths about homeschooling, such as students being less social. That has proven to not be true and in some cases they are more social with all the extra curricular activities they do. Of course there is the possibility that a student be anti social and that may be why it is a better fit for them. They may need the one on one attention that they won't get at public school. javascript:void(0)

It depends on the parent. Homeschooling has a few advantages, such as a very low students-per-teacher ratio. Downsides include the teacher often having little knowledge of the subjects in question (though up until around 5th grade this isn't really an issue and there are a myriad of online resources to assist parents and their kids). Homeschoolers in a given area generally network for the purposes of get-togethers, sharing and recommending academic resources, etcetera.

And of course, homeschooling saves resources such as gas to a slight extent.

I'll just be frank; American public schools rank far behind the rest of the world. They suck. Homeschooling as a possible alternative to break the stagnated monopoly which is our current compulsory education system should be welcomed.

@Vox_Veritas It's not that bad, that's just European misunderstanding of American education. American students score higher than Swedish students, but nobody mocks Swedish people for being dumb and stupid. If you averaged out all of Europe's education, it would be the same or worse than America's. Higher test scores doesn't always mean higher education either. Shanghai (China) rigs their students test-scores and teaches them by memory over critical thinking, basically the reason why Shanghai is on top of the charts.

Nearly 83% of homeschoolers are white middle-class students with lots of resources. Of course they're going to score higher! In public school, there are some people who recently immigrated to the U.S., so they have a disadvantage because they were learning different material there. Also, only 3% of students are homeschooled, if homeschooling was the best type of education more people would consider trying it.

Homeschooling is for everyone. Less people do it because they just want to play around instead of trying to learn something.
