Read Description: Is Rand Paul Libertarian?
Posted by: Jifpop09Someone is pissing me off, saying that Rand Paul is not a libertarian. I have read all his works, and he most certainly is. Discluding the fact he calls himself one, all his policies align with libertarianism. Anyways, please vote so I can deliver a mass support poll to my opponent.
Rand Paul IS libertarian. He wrote the libertarian party budget for Buddha's sake.

Rhodesia, are you serious? How is Rand Paul not libertarian. He refers to himself as a libertarian several hundred times
Rhodesia, you are.............. An idiot. Explain to me, WHY???? Rand Paul is not libertarian???
His political Ideology is libertarian, but he is still in the GOP.
Alright, but how come he runs as a libertarian in all his elections? How come the GOP has never nominated him once to represent them?
I don't know about that, but I guess you are known for your facts, so I'll believe it. Well it could be because someone else was running as a republican that he disagreed with or he knew he would do better running as a libertarian. If a lot of the issues he was running on were more liberation.
Hes not completely libertarian. His stance on drug legalization and abortion shows this.
At the end of the day it might be because he knows he will get more votes running as a republican. Think of it like this way. You would love to vote for the Communist Party USA, but you know they don't have a chance so you vote for the next best thing that actually has a chance. The Democratic Party. See how it works.
-_- Please stop
Any time Jiffy!

Jifpop ... Hon, you are wrong about Paul. I've produced numerous research sources to prove my point. You've produced none. I'm not sure why you are being so stubborn (pride perhaps), but you must realize that your argument has no basis. If Paul were a Libertarian, he would've filed his intent to run for office as one. There would be an (L) next to his name. He would be referred to as one. He is not. Yes, he embraces a few Libertarian ideas. But guess what? Teddy Roosevelt was involved in the Progressive Movement & embraced some of their ideas! Yet, both men (Paul & Roosevelt) are GOP!
By the way, I'm NOT trying to "p*ss you off". The facts are just the facts.
Sweet Tea You are partially right, he claims himself to be a member of the TEA PARTY, and isolationist, and a libertarian. He runs on the Republican ticket because he knows a Libertarian will never win like his father. His father left the Republican party because of Reagan. And Rand has many times denounced Reagan's god title the other Republicans have given hem because his dad knew that the Reagan administration was not the utopia it has been whitewashed to have been. Paul does not embrace total Republican ideology nor Democrat nor Libertarian, I don't really think he is committed to any thing but his own agenda like all the rest in Washington.
Sweet Tea a fox news reference? And you were lambasting someone over Wikipedia. PUH leeeze.
Sen. Rand Paul, a frontrunner for the Republican presidential nominee in 2016, feels compelled to square his “libertarian” sentiments with his conservatism.

(CNN) – Sen. Rand Paul hopes to infuse the Republican Party with some of his libertarian views, but the Kentucky Republican said Friday he’d still support the GOP presidential nominee in 2016 even if he didn’t entirely agree with that person.
“I think a libertarian twist or a libertarian influence in the Republican Party is good, but I’ve pretty much just stayed with the party and plan on doing so,” he said at Harvard’s Institute of Politics.
Ewwwwwwwwwww, ouch
In an effort to explain what Rand Paul meant when he suggested that private businesses should be able to discriminate against black people, most writers have assumed that the Tea Party fave is no racist but instead a dogmatic, don't-tread-on-me libertarian. As TPM convincingly points out today, the GOP's Kentucky Senate candidate's (now recanted) statements about the 1964 Civil Rights Act fall well within the libertarian mainstream

For many, the word that comes to mind when they hear the name Rand Paul is likely “libertarian.” While he gladly embraces the label, Paul brands himself as more a pragmatist than purist, and he’s seeking a way to bring libertarians and social conservatives—long warring cousins on the right—together.
If successful, Paul’s effort could be the start of a fresh form of fusionism on the right that could be a significant asset if he seeks the White House in 2016.

Gee Sweet Tea, sure sounds like a lot of other resources refute you and support JIF, ooppps, sorry Sweetie.
Occupied ... Normally, I wouldn't resort to FOX News. But, let's face it, they are ALL things Republican!
Occupied ... I don't care who is naïve enough to refute facts. That's their intellectual problem -- not mine. Yesterday, I attempted to point out to Jif that Paul (though he embraces some Libertarian ideas) is not a Libertarian. After that, he just kept creating polls & demanding proof. He pretty much had a meltdown.
Occupied ... As your quotes point out (and ironically support what I've stated all along), Paul embraces Libertarian ideas. But ... He ran on the GOP platform. He filed his intent to seek office as a Republican. Congress lists him as GOP, in its bio. And that (R) by his name, well, it seals the deal. He is a Republican!

He IS a libertarian. I don't agree with him in the slightest, but this is a FACT. People shouldn't patronize me over FACTS. I didn't read his 99 page budget plan to not know he wasn't LIBERTARIAN. Damn Damn Damn
He identifies himself as a Libertarian. Should he be tagged as communist of something??
He is a libertarian. He is hated by the Republicans. And he is in no man's land as far as ever being elected. He has flip flopped and back stabbed and supported racist and then tried to appease race relations. He is just a moron. Sad but true.
Have to agree with SweetTea on this one.
He hasn't ran as one. He isn't listed in Congress as one. Even though he embraces a few Libertarian views, Rand Paul calls himself a Republican. This is something anyone can confirm online & no poll on DDO will change!
Dude, Rand Paul himself said that he is more conservative then libertarian.
