Firstly, rice is less likely to go to waste. This is because bread is typically baked in large factories and transported to a supermarket. Once this bread gets stale or hits an expiration date, it is thrown out. Dry rice, however, has a much longer shelf life. Once in the home, dry rice can remain in the pantry for many months, being cooked and eaten as needed. Furthermore, many people today are developing a gluten intolerance. My mother, as well as three students in my class of 20 people, cannot process wheat. For these reasons, I feel more admiration for rice than for bread.
