Should a nation have a conscription policy during war time?

War can lead to the death of millions. During war, should a nation force those in their country to serve?

Two year draft

A draft shall go out and those who are drafted must serve two years at most and then they may go home.

Four year draft

The war is longer than expected. A draft shall go out and all those who are drafted must serve four years at most and then they may go home, presuming they lived.

Volunteer Army

The nation will have a volunteer army. The army shall consist of those who are willing to fight for the country and there is no requirement, they may leave whenever they want.

This war must be won. It may be unfavorable, but we can't let the world face tyranny (or we cannot let the free nations stop us). A draft shall go out and all those who are drafted must serve six years at most and then they may go home, hopefully no... t traumatized   more

Mandatory service

All able-bodied citizens are considered to be "on reserve". Thus, the nation may call upon anyone to serve. Everyone is part of the military in this policy. We will defend this land until the very last drop of blood spills from the last citizen.

By the way, this is for an actual war where a country declares war on a country and/or directly invades it causing nation-wide retaliation.
