  • Healthcare shouldn't be a monopoly.

  • The US has abandoned health and education because it has obsessed too much on spending way too much money on the military and is little by little increasing the tax spending on the military. This country says they don't like making us pay too much taxes but they're hypocrites because they like making us spend way too much money on real necessities and even make us work as long as possible to make that amount required. That's because they badly spend tax money and are not thrifty. They would much rather contribute it to the military. They even want us sick, but not dead. The reason is because they want us to spend more and more money on medicine that will actually get us worse. Hospital and health care system has become such a nasty and disgusting business. That is unconstitutional. Why do countries even need to make their military strong. Many lives are maliciously wasted on wars just because 2 countries disliked one another. One country wants to attack another country for such a dumb reason. Then the other country must defend itself. If no country attacked another country, there wouldn't be any war to begin with. Maybe military spending in one day will be so high and public schools will start having tuition and parents who can't financially afford to send their kids to public schools would be penalized by law. Does the military really matter so much that they need to be sacrificing the citizens lives so much and financially as well? I think people should boycott the military by refusing to get into the military. I want to see if then the government will be drafting men into the military. Sure, we need a military, but a military should be primarily for and only for helping rescue citizens in an emergency, and rescuing astronauts who have returned to Earth. They should also be for helping people in other countries who have lost so much or everything because of a natural disaster without making that country owe us something in return. If the government much reduces tax spending on the military, then they can make all public colleges and public universities free along with them letting students borrow textbooks for the term that they take that class just like in high school and have a fine system for loss and damages. Then, they can make all medical insurance universal, free, and make all hospital appointments of all kind free as well as prescribed medicine free. Nobody should be let to get sick just because of being poor financially. We can also raise the minimum wage with prohibiting stores and places and anything from raising the cost so that the low class people make enough for their basic needs. In fact, minimum wage should depend on how many kids they have and whether they're dependent or independent. That would make the system better. I'm shocked that the USA doesn't actually protect and help the people. The military thing with all the taxes actually doesn't help us. They have abandoned the people and let them suffer. In the Scandinavian countries, they have higher taxes to cover health and education as well, but it's higher because they still want to spend quite a big amount of tax money on the military but they still don't spend nearly as much on the military as USA does. The USA makes higher education and treatment cost for serious disease so high that a low class person and middle class person spend more of their money overall than those people of low and middle class in those Scandinavian countries. Even a low class person can get treatment for serious disease without spending any more money. A low class person in the USA wouldn't even be able to afford the cost for the treatment for serious disease. Most of all, once somebody get seriously ill and go to the hospital, their medical insurance cost goes up. That's very messed up. And medical insurance cost is still going up for everyone because of the new sophisticated equipment that they keep bringing in, they want the people to pay for it by increasing the medical insurance cost rather than by taxes. That is being flippin selfish. This is rather Hypocrite and Conceited States of America.

  • Today people forget that here are others who are poor. People who cannot afford healthcare because they are homeless. What about them?

  • As long as it's not a monopoly and the government regulates it correctly, I think it would be a good idea, so these health insurance companies wouldn't be so powerful

  • Great if it is properly funded. If underfunded you get a two teir system like the UK. Rich go private and get quick state of the art treatment, NHS wait and wait and hope the person they see is good. Still better than nought but a bit hit and miss. NHS is becoming a pallative and patch up service.

  • It would make individual healthcare costs sky rocket, and make average healthcare quality fall off a cliff. Making such an expensive service completely free to everyone is a terrible idea.

  • The government is not your parent. They are not to provide for you, nor are they to create a perfect life. This is the real world, not a fantasy land.

Wouldn't a government controlled healthcare be a monopoly?
briantheliberal says2015-04-05T11:41:21.4111234-05:00
I wouldn't consider it a monopoly if it's socialistic. If it's based on capitalist ideals and citizens are expected to pay out of pocket for it like a business and they are paying for a product, that's a better description of a monopoly.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-05T12:38:05.1876649-05:00
Definition of monopoly is the exclusive possession or control of the supply or trade in a commodity or service. Technically a monopoly doesn't need to have capitalist ideals.
briantheliberal says2015-04-05T12:42:27.4030222-05:00
Well I meant a monopoly in the capitalist sense. One that is privately owned and lacks governmental regulations.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-05T12:47:33.4223371-05:00
There is no such thing as a monopoly in a capitalistic sense. Your definition of monopoly "One that is privately owned and lacks governmental regulations." is very flawed. By that logic any company that any company that lacks government regulation is a monopoly. It also means that actually monopolies aren't monopolies if the government has more than a lack of regulation.

Okay whatever makes you feel good mathgeek :) -pats head-

Typo sorry. "By that logic any company that lacks government regulation is a monopoly."

LOL okay I won't.

Brian, do you have a problem with answering people without condescension? Mathgeek responded perfectly calmly and raised a valid point; there was absolutely no need to react the way you did. I think you might have a legitimate psychological condition. You should get that checked out.

The Veterans Association is a great example of how terrible government run care would be.

How is universal health care in other countries? Are life expectancies lower?
Kreakin says2015-04-05T15:49:37.5490537-05:00
Well here in the UK we go private if poss, but NHS will do if you can wait and it's not serious.
Kreakin says2015-04-05T15:51:35.9727619-05:00
NHS MRI is 1.5 tesla, private MRI 3 or 7 Tesla.

1.5 is not a good resolution for some metastasis types.

The Premier of my Province (Newfoundland) required serious surgery. He went down the the US to get it done because the privatized Healthcare was of much better quality. While the Canadian Healthcare could easily have killed him, as it was an extremely risky surgery.
Kreakin says2015-04-05T15:57:42.3527610-05:00
NHS has become a bit of a global training ground, that's not to say that some people there are not leaders in their feilds but that the chances of getting a noob are high. Go private and you will get a very good consultant/ surgeon.
Kreakin says2015-04-05T15:58:20.0142061-05:00
At a heavy cost..

Genghis, we were joking. Stop bringing conflict where it's not needed. You are the most annoying and condescending person on this site.

From a Canadian Perspective: Fact 1 - The U.S. Government spends $2.00 per person to support its private health care system for every $1.00 the Canadian government spends to run our Universal Health Care system. Fact 2 - Canadian life span is almost 2 years longer than the average American lifespan. In my opinion, these two simple facts prove that Americans would be better off with Universal Healthcare. If the U.S. moved to universal health care, they would save 25-50% of their current health care budget and live longer.

Im not very knowledgable on the subject myself, but my mother, sister, and cousin who are all doctors tell me universal health care is a terrible idea. They say it makes the quality and speed of treatment go down considerably.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-05T17:59:01.1297512-05:00
@briantheliberal "Genghis, we were joking. Stop bringing conflict where it's not needed. You are the most annoying and condescending person on this site." Brian you are very condescending, actually your last comment to Genghis is an example. The only comment I saw of you not being condescending was "I can actually understand why some people would be against abortion."
briantheliberal says2015-04-05T18:01:37.4231455-05:00
Do you even know what condescending means? Just asking.
Mathgeekjoe says2015-04-05T18:09:11.3581337-05:00
Definition-showing condescension; implying a descent from dignity or superiority; patronizing. You often talk from the position like you were superior than the other comments.
Genghis_Khan says2015-04-05T18:15:21.1809037-05:00
Hmmm looks like you weren't just "joking" after all, eh Brian? He took it as condescension, which it was. I'm not even close to as condescending as you. I have merely reciprocated your contemptible conduct when interacting with you, specifically.
the_truth1001 says2015-04-10T05:36:23.3530261-05:00
If we can spend billions of dollars on killing innocent Iraqis and terrorizing the world we can spend billions of dollar on not charging sick or dying people money to not be sick or die. Health care is a Right to all not a luxury.
