I said leave a comment LITERALLY in the title. What don't you people understand about that?
@bladez, assault rifles are fully automatic weapons. We aren't talking about full auto assault rifles. We are talking about simple semi automatic sporting rifles. Why use a handgun if tactical professionals say an AR 15 is better for home defense?
@dichotomyslave, why are you only concerned about bad people getting so called 'assault weapons"? Is it that you think they are more dangerous? Because i will gladly prove to you they aren't any more dangerous than other weapons.
@Kreakin
"Guns are tools that enable a quick kill. A citizen doesn't need to have the tools to kill large groups of people quickly." So basically your saying only governments should have weapons capable of killing large groups of people? That makes no sense.
And also, WE AREN'T TALKING ABOUT FULL AUTO WEAPONS. AR 15 rifles are SEMI AUTOMATIC weapons.
Why would a civilian need access to weapons that could kill large amounts of people? Why should the government have it over people? Military. If the people can't have it and the military can? Why not start selling Tanks and large machine guns?
Ground to air missiles, etc.
@comrade silly otter
Problem here. "assault weapons" (which is a made up term of scary guns) were ORIGINALLY made for civilian use. Semi automatic AR 15s weren't designed for the military. Also, a gun doesn't need to be an "assault weapon" to kill large sums of people. The worst mass shooting in the WORLD was not committed by an "assault weapon". That right there abolishes the argument that "assault weapons" (black rifles with "scary looking" features) are not more dangerous.
"Why should the government have it over people? Military. If the people can't have it and the military can? Why not start selling Tanks and large machine guns?" I''m misunderstanding what you are saying. Are you saying no one AT ALL should have them?
" So basically your saying only governments should have weapons capable of killing large groups of people? That makes no sense. " I was going towards this. Only governments should have weapons capable of such.
But of course. Killing potential of such weapons is high.
So what you are saying is that only governments should have guns capable of killing mass sums of innocent people? That is what you are saying? That makes perfect sense. Because the governments did kill 10s of millions of innocent people and imprisoned millions more in the last century.
Tell me how 'assault weapons" are more dangerous if they make up less than 2% of gun homicides, the 2 worst mass shootings in the entire WORLD were not committed by them (which dismisses the argument that they have the ability to kill more people) and in the past TEN YEARS, less than 70 people have been killed by "assault weapons" in mass shootings? It just makes no sense. Not to mention, 90% of law enforcement officers say they do NOT support a ban on them and an "assault weapons" ban would have NO POSITIVE EFFECT.
AR 15s are sporting/home defense rifles. They are NOT assault rifles. (FYI, AR stands for Armalite rifle) Nothing special about them. Tell me something. Why should "assault weapons" be banned if less than 300 people are killed a year by them (75% being criminals since most murder victims are criminals) but alcohol shouldn't be banned when 10,000 people are killed a year by drunk drivers?
So explain to me, with those facts, why should "assault weapons" be banned?
*didn't
Governments war, I am against it as well. But should people be able to a hold of Ground to Air missiles, tanks, mounted machine guns, etc? I am not going for the amount killed, I am going for the potential it has to do so. Sadly, I don't want todebate this with the weekend coming up.
Ground to air missiles aren't weapons that can be used by civilians. And not only that, but they aren't small arms which the second amendment protects. An AR 15 is a simple semi automatic sporting/defense rifle. Stop comparing these rifles to tanks, SAMs and fighter jets. You have been brainwashed into the perception that "scary looking" automatically means evil and more dangerous.
Also, You have yet to explain how a ban on these so called "assault weapon" would save lives. I presented you 4 facts demolishing the notion these guns are more dangerous. Where are your rebuttals?
Also, you didn't answer me about alcohol. Alcohol has a HUGE tendency to kill people. Do you support a ban on that because some people misuse it?
I am not talking about the AR rifles. I was referencing to Seido about the Military weapons though.
I don't know what seido is.
Wha... I swear there was a comment here.... Nevermind then.
What? I don't understand what you mean
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
So far the vote is 18 for assault rifles and 8 against.
Yes, because people who buy guns are only required to register and then take a course in how to use one[?] They are not given any personality test, coping skills tests, or scenarios in which they may become obstinate very quickly and having a lot of weaponry wouldn't be in their best interest or the folks they harm during their hissy fit.
Why do they need assault rifles? to protect them selves? a handgun can suffice for that need.
I personally believe that the only thing a citizen needs is a handgun.
Guns are a tool but there is no logical reason why we need huge excavators if a simple shovel will do the purpose. I would be scared to death if everyone in the U.S. had an assault rifle.
Assault weapons should be illegal but small guns are non-assault weapons should not.
Guns are tools that enable a quick kill. A citizen doesn't need to have the tools to kill large groups of people quickly. Military Automatic weapons were made by and for military personnel to fight wars not to walk around carrying because some old rule says I can. I don't have a right to buy chemical weapons or biological weapons these are also tools. The right to bear arms is already rightly limited to common sense. Machine guns fall into the outside of common sense realm and IMHO should be restricted to the military.
An AWB is absurd. If you don't believe me, please ask me why and I shall explain
No. If people don't have guns they'll use cars, knives, fists, etc. People who want to kill, will kill. However, people will be a lot more afraid to try and kill someone if they potentially have a gun.
Guns are a tool, nothing more.
If they become illegal than people will still get them. Meth is illegal but people still get it don't they? Also there will be a whole cartel for assault weapons like there is with drugs just like anything that is banned.
Guns are tools. Saying that guns kill people is like saying that pencils make writing errors, cars make people drunk, and spoons/forks make people fat. For one, to get any gun (maybe just your first) you undergo a background check and to have a licence, the same happens. Fully automatic weapons take a special licence specifically for an automatic weapon.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The second amendment did not exclude assault weapons. It was written and passed so the people of the United States could protect themselves from a rogue government that used unnecessary force against them.
It should not. I'm against the government trying to tell people how to act. Adults should have been raised to know better. I think ALL guns should be legal unless it can be reasonably expected to kill more than several people in one round (Such as the Death Star's Super Laser. That should be illegal for obvious reasons). An assault rifle can only kill one person with one bullet unless two murder victims stand together because the murderer's running out of bullets. If you disagree with me, that's your right.
They're not RPGs. Whether you should have a valid ID or a test to get one is different, but there shouldn't be a blanket ban on them.
All gun laws are unjust.
Existing gun laws should be repealed all the way back to the 2nd Amendment. If the government is allowed to have it, then the people should be allowed to own it. "If guns are a symbol of power, then in a Democracy, they should be in the hands of the People."
anyone with a few hours and a phone/computer (did i forget some money) can turn a ar15 to a m16
Just a thought, How did making drugs Illegal work out for ya?
