The main problem with banning commercial crabbing for a season is that you put the very large and important crabbing industry in some economic trouble. Many crabbers can't afford to take a season off. Either the state or the federal government could pay crabbers not to crab like they do with some farmers, but that would be a hell of a bill to get passed.

I think it would pass. It is only common sense. It's a win-win situation for everyone in the end.

Common sense is in short supply right now. Especially when it involves having another bill added on to an already large deficit (in both the federal and state cases). It still has a chance of getting passed, but the far-right will scream bloody murder the whole way.

I thought I was part of the far-right?

Are you? And your willing to increase spending on what is akin to temporary welfare? Interesting...

That is the only problem temporary welfare don't exist anymore. Most people who get on welfare stay on it for the rest of their lives.
