No. Clean diesels, such as Audi's TDI models, are very efficient.
They should be permitted and encouraged. They tend to have longer engine lives, are more fuel efficient and have much greater torque over comparably sized gasoline engines. The US, Canada and car companies do their best to keep diesel cars out of the hands of consumers who really want them. The few that are available for sale in the US are difficult to find or are very expensive.
Switching to electric only would cause even more pollution, think about the pollution that would be caused by making a replacement car for every car owner... or the batteries, also where do you think the electricity is coming from, most electricity in the U.S. is produced with fossil fuels, coal, etc
