  • Why should the government steal a loved one's possessions?

  • I can't believe Brian the liberal voted yes on this, it seems to contradict his polical philosophy, or maybe he came to his senses and he's a republican now, but whatever

  • the government already takes enough of our income... I also believe prize money should not be taxed. If you win the lottery you should not be taxed. You should only be taxed for income you earn while working at a company or if you're self employed. America has the second highest income tax in the world. And the feds use most of it for redistribution and the impossible "war on poverty"

My money my choice on how to spend it. And various important family items that have been with us for generations and help me remember dead family members should be kept with me and my family, not someone they didn't even know and who has no connection to them.

Dilara - the inheritance tax is not after your family keepsakes. It has no effect on your moms and dads money, unless they (combined) are leaving you 10million or more. Do you understand this?

This is absolutely ridiculous. I would bet good money that fewer than .001% of members of this site have been or have the potential of ever being effected by the inheritance tax. I have known some that were, and with some planning, they were hardly touched. An ex-girlfriend's father was comfortably over 100million. While still in college, she and her sister were meeting with the financial planer, each time strategically moving assets. They were quite sure that there would be 'no impact' when they inherited the the family's wealth.

The holocaust didn't directly effect most members on this site either, but it's still unethical

That is silly. Taxes are not death, and good tax policy is not genocide.

The point is, so very few are actually effected by this that it is hardly worth discussion. For those that it does effect, I can make a very strong argument why it is very good.

I've read those reasons. I've actually a few of Karl Marx's works. He would not like the inheritance tax either because he preferred one that was 100%

@Wylted - After a bar is reached, 100% or very near is logical.
