  • If they don't want to, they shouldn't have to. Learning another language if you are never going to use it is just a complete waste. If you want to learn it anyway, go ahead, but I do not think it should be required

  • Let the kids that are truly passionate about learning other languages benefit from this in their adult life instead of forcing all kids to take a language course, It wont even be relevant when applying for a job if everybody can do it anyways.

  • Thats what they are doing in Canada.

  • Besides the obvious individual rights invasion, it is unnecessary as you only need to know one language. I don't want to know any language except English because it is the best language and it would not be worth it to learn a new one, it would be like having a computer with two or three operating systems.

  • Other languages are for the enemy.

  • They shouldn't be FORCED, but rather strongly encouraged. After all, communication is becoming increasingly important in a more globalized world.

Well, if you live in the US like I do, then it is completely unnecessary. I can start on the east coast, walk 3000 miles west, and hear nothing but english. But if you live in Europe (for instance) where different languages and cultures are only a few hundred miles apart or less, it does help to know more than one language.
