Marijuana has been fear mongered since Nixon was in office. His Domestic Policy adviser knew that the plant wasn't dangerous. " "We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did." John Ehrlichman, Nixon's Domestic-Policy adviser
Drug prohibition has only (and inevitably) led to more drug-related crime. Legalising marijuana is a step towards reducing this. People who can use marijuana safely can do so, and people who are addicted can seek medical help rather than jail sentences. Though some people argue that marijuana is not as bad as alcohol or tobacco, this in itself does not mean that it's safe. However it does beg the question, why are some drugs legal, and other, less harmful drugs, not? People are going to keep using marijuana whether it's legal or not. Legalising it just makes this safer.
Marijuana is a lot more safer than you think, as long as your brain has fully developed and you aren't: pregnant, have any disorders, or mentally unstable you should be fine. In fact here are some things that were made of hemp: The Declaration of Independence, sail boat sails that got us to America, and lots more.
A lot of people are saying that it is harmful. I'm not gonna argue with you about whether or not it's harmful. Instead, let me ask you this: does it matter? If you want to ban every harmful drug, then we should ban alcohol and tobacco as well! They're more harmful than marijuana! But do you know why they're legal? Because despite them being harmful to the user, they are not harmful to others (except for alcohol, which can cause the consumer to become a hazard to others). If you think it's harmful, then just don't do it. Why should you be able to stop other people from doing harmful things to themselves if it doesn't effect anyone else? You shouldn't.
The only situation i see it should be legal for is for medical purposes. I realize that there are a lot who claim that it is not harmful, but in long time use, it is. However, I don't think that keeping it illegal will stop people using it, and I have heard that if it is legal people would use it less, but I disagree. So while people still use it recreational purposes, I don't think it should be legal.
Marijuana is simply not fit to be legalized right now. Maybe in the future years when millenials are not as idiotic as they are today. The risk of abuse is not comparible to the positives.
Why would marijuana ever be legalized. The thought just seems self-destructive. Marijuana can only be used through medicinal purposes--No more no less.
