Men and women are already being paid the same. I'm guessing this poll is referring to the "wage gap" which is a myth. Men are on average paid more than women, because they prefer high risk/high pay jobs(working on oil rigs and such), whereas women tend to go for low paying jobs such as caretakers and nurses. There isn't anything sexist about this, it is simply how the world works. If men and women are doing the same exact job with the "same exact equality", then yes, they should be paid the same. Quality is arguable though. Nevertheless, I agree with Prole's statement. Men tend to take those more risky and in-demand jobs while women are taking the others. That's not to demean women at all! It's just a fact. That's why you might see a lot of people campaigning for women to become engineers, which is a pretty high-paying job. That's not the fault of men though, truly it isn't!

@triangle how do you know? The question is very vague and can be interpreted any way. Just because you perceive it one way does not mean I should conform to your view. It could be talking about men and women on average, or a single job, or any job. Who knows. Since there is no clarification, I will just assume that it's generally asking whether or not men and women should be paid the same... Which they obviously shouldn't be, for the sake of job value.

@uglie-boy: the *exact* same? What if one is a harder and more responsible worker than the other, and puts more effort into their job? Should they still be paid the same?

@uglie-boy We are talking about how much men and women are paid on average, just because men ON AVERAGE get paid more than women, does not mean they are paid more for doing the same job. Men and women are paid the exact same for doing the exact same job. But because men, ON AVERAGE have higher paying jobs than most women it means that men are ON AVERAGE paid more. Keep in mind that there are also some very wealthy women, who are paid more than the very poor. The "wage gap" has nothing to do with gender, it is about the wealthy gaining more wealth and the poor getting poorer.

No ... Its a blanket statement. They should get paid on performance. If the fact that they are female makes them any less (or more) effective in the same position job then they should get docked (or paid more) appropriately. Same pay for the same title is not an option. Examples (there are many more ... These were just easy ones): Logging - The average male fells more trees than female ... Male makes more as a logger. Waitress/Customer Service - A female brings in more revenue and leaves the customers with a more pleasant experience at a particular establishment than males ... Female should get paid more in that role.

Gender shouldnt be a factor, it should instead be based on their records, education ext. Just because men may on average be better suited for certain jobs does not mean that men will always be better suited for that job. The same goes for jobs which women will on average be better at.

Then I don't see how we can make generalizations based on education either. Since same degrees from different colleges mean very different things?? I mean really, how is business supposed to be conducted in a world with no generalizations. I'll never understand you people on this ...

Education and records a far superior methods of determaning an employees worth. There are far clearer trends when it comes to these things. The trends which are based gender are incredibly unreliable.

Unreliable maybe if you apply them wrong. There is a definite use for stereotyping, though.
