And if we recognize them, they get tax exemptions.
Why can't people disrespect religion? They do every crazy thing religious people do to show how silly it is. Religion deserves no respect and FSM is proving that, hail the noodly one!!!
Its not a actual religion though. They can bash on it all they want, but were not going to give them tax exemptions.
We should not give Christians tax exemptions either but we do so..... Lol
Yes we do. If the government taxes religion then that violates church and state
People should be able to worship freely of government interference.
Are you guys serious? We would be exempting these people from taxes for a made up religion.
"Are you serious?" - Said the man with a half naked woman as his profile picture.
I'm very proud of my body
Lol, okay.
Oh dear... It's happening again... ;(

I'm a pathological liar
If pastafarianism was introduced centuries ago it would grow to be a religion today. There are thousands of religions and if one is right then 999 are wrong and must have been made up like pastafarianism.
No one believes in it, so the practice should not be tax exempted, It breaks the separation between church and state.
Well, that's redundant because you just said that you think that no religion deserves tax exemption.
No I didn't. Only religions with actual followers. As Dmussi said, no one follows the religion, so there is no reason to exempt them from their dues.
Sorry, you actually said that taxing religion is a violation of the separation church and state. But wait a minute, you say that if this religion is official, then it will be free of tax and that would also be a violation of separation of church and state
Looked back, and I had my words jumbled. No, legalizing it would be an abuse of the system, and an unfair tax break.
Why should we exempt religions of tax? Should we exempt children believing in santa from homework?
Do I need to explain why church mixed with state is a bad idea? If I don't, then you should know that taxing religion, is a violation of that. Whenever you mess with others religions, it causes trouble. Its not a joke to most people
So why can't pastafarianism get tax exemptions. It's for the same inane reason, never mind who actually believes it or not.
What about Mormonism and Scientology. Remember my question about children and santa exempt from homework?
Because for a religion to be legalized, it needs to have legitimate believers, and can not be classified under cult circumstances. It has no believers, and frankly, your arguments for why it should be tax exempted are weak.
Mormonism and Scientology have followers. The main reason why Scientology and Pastafarianism are not recognized though, is because they make a profit, and legal religions are non profit.
How do you know that no one believes in pastafarianism?
Its pretty obvious, or if they do, then the numbers don't rise above cult level. And stop dropping my contentions. Pastafarianism makes a profit, so they can not be recognized by law.
Legal religions are non-profit, but demand you donate toward their holy place. Jedi Knight has followers, enough followers to be a religion. How do you know they are bluffing?
If the government finds that a religion is stealing peoples money, then they can be charged with fraud. Pastafarianism and Scientology are organized profitable structures. Hence, not able to be legalized.
There are religious cons. Those who deceive the followers into giving lots of money but I cannot prove they don't actually follow the religion.
Is Jedi Knight Profit or non-Profit?
Your right, you can't prove it. Your concession amuses me. Technically, they don't have to believe to teach it. Its not the governments business. What don't you get about that? As long as they're not making a profit, then their fine. And you drop my contention again. The Church of Pastafarianism makes a profit, so why should they be legalized?
The answer is that they shouldn't. Profitable corporations shouldn't have a stake in religion. The reason we don't recognize these people, is so they don't abuse people's beliefs for profits.
"What don't you get about that?" Eh? "As long as they're not making a profit, then their fine." Ok, Explain why it is fine. Why does being a non-profit institution (who still makes money) get away with it.
They are allowed to collect money if its being used for volunteer service or renovation. The IRS checks church records, and if they find that they are spending the money on, lets say a car, then they can be arrested. Get it now?
How does the priest get paid?
The priest only gets payed in certain churches, and the times they do is rare. The IRS does allow donations to go towards paying ministers, but your certainly not going to make any real money under their watch. For example, if they find a priest is getting paid 25,000 a year, then the church can be criminalized.
Do all non-profit organizations get tax-exemptions?
And by the way, how much money does pastafarianism get?
Only some, and this is extremely: rare. Churches are different, due to separation laws between the church and state.
How is that fair.
And actually, the church itself even says it makes money off of people in its faq. I don't know about their exact figures, but they do sell books and products, not filed under a separate business license.
Because religion is a sensitive thing. We are beyond questioning why government should stay out of it Historic attempts elsewhere have shown that taxing churches upsets people, as a suppression of religion. This is why church exemptions are universal through the western world. The government has no right to be a middle man in religion.
By not allowing pastafarianism to become an official religion, that is suppressing a religion.
And you have yet to counter a single of my three contentions. Perhaps we should argue this later, after you've had some time to think
Pastafarianism can become a religion, as soon as it becomes non profit, proves it has sufficient membership, and stop being vocal about it not being a real religion.
"FSM is a real, legitimate religion, as much as any other." From the Official page of the Church of the Flying spaghetti monster. http://www.venganza.org/join/ Now, list your three contentions instead of whine about me not countering them.
You are condescending, "Perhaps we should argue this later, after you've had some time to think," "Get it now?" "
I love it when people lose their temper in a debate with me. Its a sign that they lost control of the situation. Saying that my rebuttals are whining, is a ad hominen. Now if you want to stop whining, you can challenge me to a formal debate.
*hominem
What I have got from you is that religions deserve special treatment, unless they make money. If I am wrong then correct me
What I'm saying, if your finished with your insults, is that religion is sensitive to people. Its deep to their hearts and more valuable to them then life. When the government regulates religion with taxes, they are treading dangerous ground.
I have not lost my temper, I just used a specific word for a specific effect. It wasn't an ad hominem, I have nothing against your views, or you as a person or your debating skills (they are actually quite good).
Then you wouldn't mind debating me?
I don't mind. I am quite enjoying this.
Personally i'd rather get rid of the whole tax exampt status thing but this is the second best thing
Pasta! Pasta! The flying spaghetti monster will prevail over you puny mortal scum!
I like the kitty picture, doesn't he have a specific name?
You call a deliberately made up religion more ridiculous than ones people genuinely believe in? What intolerance of other people's views.
@SiorafasNaCillini:
How is it a ridiculous religion? It is about the almighty flying spaghetti monster. Heck, they even have a church about it.
You can go suck on my noodlly appendage.
While we're at it, let's worship The Chocolate Monkey as well. Or the Easter Bunny. Or the Toothfairy. Why not?! (Note sarcasm please.)
because ideas as ridiculous as the major religions today are official while more reasonable beliefs are cults.
Yeh
Because pasta is the one god of the world! Hail pasta! Hail pasta!
If that is what makes you a peaceful, loving, harmonious person; yes
Why should any other religion be able to be recognized? Mormonism is pathetically obvious to be full of it. Scientology is one of the saddest excuses of a religion there is. There is no reason why any religion can be legally recognized while pastafarianism is not.
it has just as much evidence as any other religion...
It is the duty of every human being to look up the sky, observe the world around them and answer the question: why are so many objects are created in the shape of meatballs and spaghetti? This surely proves that the world, and all that is in it, is created, at least partially, in the Flying Spaghetti Monster's image in order to reveal his presence to those who seek him.
It sure as hell hurts less people, so why the hell not? You (most likely, despite you believing you are being oppressed when in fact you are the most accepted group in the world)believe in a God that condones rape and murder so why can't I believe in a harmless spaghetti dude that gives gifts. Both have equal amounts of proof, and history can only prove history no other category of fact.
yes. it makes eating spaghetti more enjoyable for me.
I think it's silly personally, but if people truly believe it then why not?
It's insane to say the cracker crunching wine sipper child molesters get to practice whatever they want and deny birth control to employees, But the people who just want to eat their spaghetti and wear their colanders and pirate regalia get denied their religious rights
No, and I don't know why the leaders keep insisting its legitimate. They are just trolling religion, and its somewhat disrespectful.
It was a great idea from the start to make its point (about religion and education), but it's simply a parody and it can easily be proven that no one actually believes in it.
No, don't feed the trolls.
No. It should be obvious. Why rile people up? Of course, you can make up whatever religion you want and call yourself the Queen of the Bermuda Triangle. But I think, considering the heat and assumptions calling yourself a Pastafarian imply, it's just not a good idea. And it feels like it would cause more trouble than it's worth.
They just do it for spite.
Stop trolling.
