Once upon a time, tyranny by majority happened. It would suck to be a minority.
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner.
A direct democracy would be far lees productive and effective.
Direct democracy does not work because it only focuses on the majority, and does not focus on the minority, and especially does not focus on the ultimate minority: the individual.
Grassroots democracy would never work.

Absolutely not. That would just be mob rule, exactly the type thing the founding fathers wanted to prevent by setting up the system how it is.
I'd prefer as many individuals reconciling their interests as possible to a few individuals getting in the way of the many. Yes, the world is comprised of individuals- the thing is, there's more than one, which certain people don't realize.
